Hey guys, first time on here. I've been reading for a while now but thought I'd join ya all. I've been a Bobcat fan for about 20 years now. Gotta love the Bobcats!!

I've been frustrated, as I am sure many of you have, as to the play of our Bobcats this year. I was impressed with the win last night against the Akron Dips and one thing I saw which may help us with the rest of the season is Bean and Stevie need to start "knowing" each other. What I mean by that is start playing really tight with each other, to the point you know what the others about to do. I think with that and NDour staying down low and Campbell down with him and use Laster and R Taylor as your wings, they should be a tough team to beat. I just really want to see this team go far here in the final push of the season and a tight combo of Bean and Stevie is one of the keys that could do that in my book. What are everyone's thoughts on that?

Not sure there's a lot of closeness between the two although I don't have any idea of their relationship behind the scenes. But did anybody notice when they had a two on one break and Stevie made that nice pass to Bean for an and 1 that Bean and Stevie both celebrated separately without even looking at each other. I might be reading too much into a snapshot but it stuck out to me.

Big props to Bean Willis last night.

Scoring 17 straight against Akron is legendary.

I'm surprised he's not getting more kudos on the message board today. He deserves them for that game.

Saw this and then I saw Stevie go over and chest bump Bean at the foul line and it just looked cold and awkward.. Probably reading too much into it, but I definitely thought it looked like they aren't very close.

Yeah, OUVan, that is the main reason I started this thread was that play. I mean it's exactly what needs to be done but if there is no "bond" between the two teammates, we are not going far. The play was fabulous but yeah, the separate celebrations concerned me too.

He was on.. It was great, but I think most people on here are tired of his awful shot selection.. It makes him come off selfish.. I can't let one great night negate the previous 3 or 4 games..

At a certain point, the boy pointed out that I needed to keep screaming "NOOOOO!" because every time I did the ball went in.

I think the personality dynamics ship has pulled out of port on this season. If they're not on a wavelength by now, expecting one to develop is a waste of thought.

Ten years from now we'll look back fondly on the 17-point spurt, have some sort of cute nickname for it like "Bean-mode" and talk about how awesome it was when that dude was on it, and how awful it was when he wasn't. Then we'll drink another Jackie O's and complain about how the student section isn't as good as it was then.

Bean kept pulling up and taking a heat-check. He never cooled down. Part of the perceived silence about last night's game is that, in the past, he keeps shooting regardless of the results of a heat-check. It's a fine line between confidence and selfishness. DJ always seemed to add in a couple ridiculous assists around his poor shot selection at times, which is why most give him a free pass in this comparison.

I was just excited to see them both attack the basket and finish. Akron's guards were terrible at keeping Bean in front of them. Something every other team hasn't had a problem doing this year. To make matters worse, the Akron bigs didn't offer any help and let our guards finish at the rim without much difficulty.

Beyond the 31 points on 75% 3-point showing, he also contributed 7 rebounds and 5 assists with only 2 turnovers. Not a bad line.

Last season, he shot significantly better from 3 the 2nd half of the season... Hopefully this was the start of that run all over again from Bean.

I agree with the your statement in one way Pete. I don't expect them to start hanging out, going to Taco John's together, and back to the apartment for some Call of Duty til 2am. I am just saying they should get together, talk about how well it does the team for them to play with each other (instead of this "me" ball), and work on that. I don't think it's too late for that. If they start utilizing each other more than they have, then we will see some major progress in the team itself.

I think they have gotten off the wrong foot with each other. Stevie has been here from the get go in his college career and Bean came in as a JC transfer. I also think the media and this board has put them up against each other as to who is better and who should start. If I was Saul, why not start both with Bean being the SG and Stevie the PG. Neither is the best ball handler but I do think Bean is a better outside shot so it would make more sense in him getting open. Plus, I do think Stevie is a better handler than Bean.

I was disappointed on how Stevie handled his first three fast-break opportunities. On the first one, he had Ryan to his right for an easy dunk but took it all the way and got fouled. Ryan give him a palms-up WTF look. On the second, he was on the right and had Laster in the middle and Ryan on the left. Looked like he could have given it to Ryan for an easy path to the basket or give to Laster in the middle sooner. Instead, he waited and gave to Laster late who got called for a charge. Saul took him out immediately. In the second half, he had Harley to his left for an easy dunk and took it all the way and got fouled. So with the very real chance of the team getting 6 points, Stevie ended up with 3.

Agreed. I mentioned in the chat how badly Akron was playing on defense. Even DePaul wasn't that easy to drive on. We essentially got to learn what it's like to play against our defense. The difference is their bigs didn't even attempt to step in. I hate to be negative Nelly but I don't see this as any corner being turned. Just like the DePaul game and the Ball State game this was just another team making no effort to defend us. Say what you will about Bean but he is a huge weapon when he gets an open shot. But it's on the other team when he does get one. Still a nice win that Saul and the team really needed.

Yep, although I think Laster made an even worse decision on the second one. He easily had time to pass to Ryan or just back to Stevie and it would have been an easy layup. But a pass a step earlier by Stevie would have been better.

Too many players on this team didn't learn how to share while they were in kindergarten. Usually, an assist is the last thing any of them look for!

Some coaches tell kids not to run a 3-1 fast break all the way to the goal, instructing the middle guy to hang back because smart defenders will plant their feet for a charge as soon as the pass goes to the middle guy.

I forget the Ryan play, but do remember the play when Khari would have had an easy dunk.

Actually, Stevie and Bean have a great relationship. It might not be as evident from the stands, but they have great respect for each other, and enjoy playing together! Each player has a unique way of expressing themselves some times (Stevie more passionate outwardly), but they both support each other. A lot of speculation on this board, but most of the time it's off the mark. But entertaining thou!

You have to make the defender make a move. The longer you wait to give the ball up, the more chance he has at picking the right spot and either drawing a charge or timing a blocked shot. There's a reason people run the 3 man weave drill, although it would look a little ridiculous in a game situation. But simple touch passes would have wiped out that charge for sure.

Ridiculous? I think it's a beautiful thing when I see it. Spurs do it and I love it. It is only ridiculous in its perfection.

Something to consider when considering the team's chemistry with Bean Willis. He's a few years older than the rest of the seniors, he's like 25. So I can completely understand if he's not out socializing with the rest of his teammates at the women's basketball game.

I think you guys are reading way too far into Stevie & Bean's celebration. They were both in the zone and Stevie seemed content running over towards the fans/cameras to let out a scream.
