Yes, the stage and circumstance elevates it from a 3.

Best dunk I've seen, by far, was by Gary Trent at BGSU (Anderson Arena). He got the ball beneath, and almost behind, the basket on the right side and was double teamed. He pivoted, took one dribble, did a reverse one-handed slam that simply brought down the house. BG fans were awestruck.

Tony Campbell was listed around 280 his freshman year and had a few. How big were the other guys.
Can't find any weight info on past rosters. I'm guessing Vic Alexander was 280ish. Ed Sears and others were pushing that limit as well.

My favorite Vic Alexander memory was a postgame radio interview when the broadcaster asked about Vic's hobbies: "Eating and sleeping."

Both were probably bigger. Campbell really transformed his body in his time here.

I'd love to see this thread become one updated after every game with a scoring of each dunk and a simple write-up. I'm so fascinated by all this.

Good to know if I am ever wondering "hmmm did X player ever dunk?" I can just ask this thread.

@Miami

Clayton putback dunk in transition: 3
Hunter pick-6 fast break: 2
Hadaway alley: 2

Clayton's dunk was our first putback of the year. Hadaway's was his first alley oop of the year other than the off the backboard at Buffalo. I really don't like the sets we run for him to get an alley oop. They fail more often than not because there are simply too many other people in the paint to disrupt the pass or the catch.

We are up to 60 dunks on the year.

Didn't Clayton have an oop vs. Akron?

Clayton has lots of Oops. Hadaway only has the two. There's been just one tip dunk this year.

I respect your high standards in the dunk ratings, but Clayton's feels like a 3.5 and Hadaway's a 2.5 from last night.

Every time we dunk now I look at it in an entirely new light.

6'0" will be the shortest player to record a dunk because we've traditionally never listed a player under 6 feet on our roster (even if he were only 5'10") in the era of dunking.

Doubt Chad Estis or Gus Johnson ever dunked -- they were each about 6-0.

Spindle Graves was listed as 6'1", but I find that questionable.

I would prefer the HEAVIEST player to dunk. That opens it up a bit more, with John Beauford probably having a slight edge over the Baby Bull Vic Alexander.
It's debatable whether DJ got one in a game. There was a breakaway at home against Robert Morris in 2012 where he got some rim, but not at all a throwdown. You tell me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veyL0U8S-bc

Stevie and Bean could dunk in warmups.

Sheldon, EJ4, and Ike all had comfortable dunks in warmups last night, but have yet to do it in a game. Sheldon can get up easy if the ball is set up for him, like if he lobs it to himself. I predict if he ever does dunk in a game, it will be a tip or alley oop.

Quarterfinals vs WMU

Hadaway two fast break dunks. Each rate a 2. The reverse is fun, but it's a standard Hadaway dunk and the one Bronco player didn't offer much of a challenge on the break.

On this day in 2010, Devaughn Washington had a pretty sick dunk against Georgetown

I would rate that the highest and most famous since I've been a fan. Not the best aesthetically, but the stage and the moment cement it in Ohio dunk lore.

Semi-finals vs Akron: Clayton alley oop in the halfcourt. Rate it a 2.

Hadaway and Clayton finish tied for the team lead with 23 dunks on the season. We had 63 total dunks this year, just barely under two a game. There have been some season where we averaged less than one.

Top five (IMO) on the season

5. Hadaway off the backboard at Buffalo
4. Clayton's first alley oop at home vs Buffalo (he FLEWWWWW)
3. Clayton putback at Miami
2. Clayton fast break alley oop at home vs Akron. The moment!
1. Hadaway reverse poster vs Davidson, our only SC Top 10 on the season

Honorable mention to Wiz back to back dunks at home vs Miami. Biggest crowd of the season, second half, both somewhat challenged. Fun moment.

I am sorry for this but easily the dunk I will remember most from this season is Wiz falling flat on his face after dunking against Defiance.

Not sure where to put this (start a new thread??) but I'll ask it here and hope someone (shabamon) kept the data.

In 33 games, how many tips did Ohio win to start the game?

Don't know.

I'll tell you this with certainty. In the three years Jon Smith was here and started at center, his tips lost is probably fewer than five.

Using Shab's rating system I'd love to see if we'd be able to come up with a Top 10 Bobcat dunks of all-time (unless he already has one!), or at least since the turn of the century because Gary Trent probably has 10 of his own that belong on their own list.

These are in no particular order:

-DeVaughn Washington vs. Georgetown
-Jerome Tillman vs. Maryland
-Doug Taylor vs. Ball State
-Maurice N'Dour vs. Buffalo

Would add
-Jason Preston vs WMU
-Justin Orr vs New Mexico State
-Reggie Keely vs Akron
-Devaughn and-1 facial on some weird-looking Akron dude. Overtime game in 09 I think. Linhart?

There are others I love, but as far as program dunks go, these stand out over the last 20 years as nominations
