Remember when Ohio teams protected home court. Even the Convo can't help this terrible team. We aren't even within single digits of most of the MAC teams this year.

Christian wasn't planning to stick around, so protecting the Convo wasn't high on his list. But if Saul would like to stay as long as he says, he needs to instill in his team how important it is to win at home.

I think if you start in 1907 an move forward you will find that we have had clankers every year at home. Not sure how us defending the home court compares to the top 50% of basketball nationwide. I would suspect we are average or even a bit below in just looking cursorily. Starts on page 31 and goes to page 43. I always hate those statements that are not necessarily factual that start with "remember when?".......

I don't know Bornacatfan. I think I remember some impressive home records/streaks under Hinter and O'Shea.

I am not going to deny that those were impressive. We all saw the numbers in the NCAA showing how the home team wins most times. My point was that I do not think we are a huge deviation from the norm like Duke, wisky, even Xavier with abnormally high win %. We have probably defended well at home. I don't have time tonite to go through and do a comparative analysis of us vs the NCAA numbers. I am sure our wins streaks in basketball over time were on par with the losing streaks in Football... just a deviation in the program that is normal. My biggest problem has always been the walking with giants that starts with a blanket "I remember when..."

Actually, 31 road wins by my count. Being the pick em guy, I have easy access to a list of every MAC game since 2003 so I grabbed the home winning percentage for all years.

2015 - 51-31 (.622)
2014 - 64-44 (.596)
2013 - 54-42 (.562)
2012 - 65-31 (.677)
2011 - 62-34 (.646)
2010 - 62-34 (.646)
2009 - 65-31 (.677)
2008 - 69-27 (.719)
2007 - 62-34 (.646)
2006 - 63-45 (.583)
2005 - 83-34 (.709)
2004 - 74-43 (.632)
2003 - 74-43 (.632)

Total - 848-473 (.642)

This year is actually more home team friendly than the past 2 years, but all 3 years are significantly more successful for the road team than the historical average.

The old "remember when" is silly IMHO, but obviously we have often won more at home than we have this year. I was looking up at the banners today, thinking of Mast, and thinking that I, and many on here, feel that OU hoops holds a special place in the MAC, and reading the reality that we've won the MAC, what, 10 times in 45 years, and twice in the last 20? Yes, we have a tournament pedigree, but we've hardly been the force that "remember when" might justify. I look forward to continuing our (minus this year) upwarding trend, and becoming that MAC force that I feel we should (can?) become.

I'm 100% in disagreement with this. I don't think he was sad to leave, but I very much doubt he planned on being gone so quickly. His recruiting class had contributors now at Tennessee, USF, UB..

Ohio was always a waystop to other things for him. I never got the feeling he tried to instill in his players a sense of Ohio pride or history, or that the Convo belonged to them and nobody else, even though his wife went to Ohio. At least Groce has kept in touch with and provided encouragement to his former players at Ohio. Haven't heard anything like that about Christian.

So it's totally subjective and you have no evidence other than a feeling and a memory that's colored by our current situation. For the record, he said all the "right" things after being hired and his first few games. Also for the record, Stevie Taylor specifically named him as someone who called to support him as he struggled this season.

A lot of the JC bashing here seems to be based on him leaving and not reality. It's like saying you didn't love the girl who dumped you anyway. Maybe it makes you feel better but it's probably not true.
