The only surefire starters, IMO, are Tony and Jaaron. Every other spot is up for grabs.

I am worried that we will have only one rotation player who does big man things (high volume rebounds, block shots, high 2pt. FG%).

I would like to see a starting lineup of

Simmons
R. Taylor
Setty
Kaminski
Campbell

I'm not expecting a return to the top of the MAC, but having an effective PG on the roster again will be nice.

I think 4 starters are locked in for now. Simmons, R. Taylor, Kaminski, and Campbell. The 5th one could be anyone really, but I'll predict Dartis for now.

Simmons
Taylor
Harley
Kaminski
Campbell

Dartis could sneak into the starting line up over Harley. I think if another scholarship becomes available, we should pocket it for the next class.

I think you all are selling Mike Laster short, I think he has what it takes to become a Walter Offutt like player on the team and will put in the work in the off season to make an Ivo like sophomore jump. It doesn't show in the stats but I've been impressed with his hustle and grit.

Without a dependable jump shot Mike may just be what he is for four years: energy guy, great teammate, nice rebounder for his size and a slasher. Walt was an amazing player who single-handedly couldn't be stopped by North Carolina. To compare Mike to him at all would be crazy. I respect Mike and love that we picked him up late. I look forward to him bringing mad energy every night.

Way too early to be thinking about next year's starters, or finishers for that matter ! Who knows what can happen between now and then ?? Who is going to have a monster summer camp season someplace and return in the fall a different player ??? Is their a sleeper out there someplace that we have the inside track on ??
I look forward to the day that Saul can look out on the practice floor and see 3 or 4 Bobcats that could start for any of the top 2 or 3 teams in the MAC, supported by 3 or 4 teammates who are pushing them for their game minutes !
Then, and only then does speculation make much sense to me .

Walt's career stats through his sophomore season:

12-30 FG, .40%, 2-12 3pt, .17%, 6-12 FT, .50%. 4/7 a/to

Keep in mind that Walt didn't see the court very often in conference play so these numbers were put up against the soft white underbelly of A&M's schedule. I'm not saying that Mike will be as good as Walt but you wouldn't have thought Walt was going to be Walt if you had assessed his play after his freshman year. I haven't seen anything from Laster that tells me he won't be a good player. My guess is that if Simmons is as good as we hope he is then you will be saying at this time next year "Wow, Laster really has taken a leap forward this year."

6'5" SG Gavin Block
.... thoughts ?
Was just reading an article that borna posted in Block's recruiting thread and the first four lines are:

"Decatur MacArthur’s Terry Bond flies down the baseline and plows into Lincoln’s Gavin Block.
Charge.
That was Block’s third taken charge in the game.
It just comes natural to the 6-foot-6 senior standout."

Made me want to cry I was so happy.

My version of this:

Staring 5

6'1 PG Jaaron Simmons (lock)
6'1" PG/SG Jordan Dartis
6'5" SF Ryan Taylor
6'8" F Kenny Kaminski (lock)
6'8" PF Antonio Campbell (lock)

Bench

6'5" SG Gavin Block
6'4" SG James Gollon
6'4" SG Mike Laster
6'7" SF Khari Harley
6'9" F Ellis Dozier – possible redshirt
6-9 PF Treg Setty
6'10" PF/C Doug Taylor

I think Dartis starts or plays a ton of minutes. I think Block will certainly push for a lot of minutes. I think a redshirt in there somewhere is very, very likely. My candidates would be amongst Dozier, Taylor (only if he isn't healthy) and Gollon.

If Doug Taylor has recovered from the ACL, and is healthy, I think he pushes for a lot of PT. He seems to be a very capable big man. Dozier is an unknown. I was looking for updates about him and found little. He's obviously shown enough to get 3* from ESPN.com.

The 2 and 3 spots are going to be interesting with all the capable bodies. I'm anxious to see what another year does for Taylor/Laster/Harley.

Agree here, though I truly hope not. I think Wadley has some special athleticism for his height, and needs to just harness it on defense and getting to the glass. He had a really nice half against FGCU and then disappeared.

6'9" C Wadley Mompremier – possible transfer

**Finally, I agree with the comment of 'pocketing' a scholly if one comes open UNLESS its to use it on a nice transfer player from the mold of Simmons & Kaminski.

You'll find more information if you look him up under his given name - Hayden Finch.

While it would be nice it's not a necessity. Give me 3 guards who can dribble, pass and shoot and two forwards who can muscle inside and I'm happy. John Smith was never a true center, and I don't think I would categorize Leon Williams as a "true center" either.
