Gongwer News Service reported that the 11th District Court of Appeals upheld, by a 2-1 vote, a lower court decision that Kent had lawfully added a damages clause to Geno's contract if he left early to coach at another school. The $1.2 million judgment against Geno stands.

The decision can be accessed here: http://www.sconet.state.oh.us/rod/docs/?source=11

Third season in...Bradley is 6-12 overall and 1-4 in conference. He could be job hunting at the end of the season.

He either didn't seek advice or didn't take the advice he was given. His contract specified damages if he left early. If he thought Kent would ignore the language in the contract, he was mistaken.

Has he tried to jump in the air and kick his leg out? That always got him bailed out of trouble in the past.

Kent is correct and correct in pursuing this. Garnishment for millions of dollars - Wow!

One positive hope is that this outcome would put a damper on the sham coaching contracts that have proliferated in college sports. Meaningless "buyouts" and penalty clauses, mid-contract, multi-year "extensions", etc. that neither party has any real intention of abiding by.

I'm excited to think that someday a big time coach, let's say John Calipari, is held hostage by the "Ford rule".

He was making $300k at KSU and is making $700 at Bradley. The extra $400k per year he has made there is now owed to KSU. I think he'd be able to survive in Peoria on $300K a year. It's not like he is being bankrupted.

The contracts are not a "sham", but they are enforceable. If you were in his shoes you have the choice to take the offer and possibly pay the buyout or stay put. Up until now you haven't heard of a school enforcing the contract. I wonder if he made the decision with all the facts.

There was testimony in the court case that when Ford said he wanted to talk to Bradley, the AD had reminded him exactly what was in the contract, and he went to Bradley anyway.

I don't think there's any phrase that turns my stomach the way "core group of supporters" does when discussing turnover.

Well that was fast.

Listened to a friend very closely associated with Bradley talking about Coach, AD being done. Was interesting how all that came out with an open ended question. Not finding much on their board yet.
