Some people have gotten on and expressed disappointment the day after games lately because no one is talking about games the night of...they are saying it's strange that no one cares enough to comment.

SO HERE WE GO!

Someone posted recently that Tim Miles won't let his Cornhuskers back in their locker room until they show school pride. How about our guys? I don't have any criticism for the Ozone's lack of enthusiasm at times or the dropping attendance numbers. Why would anyone go watch this team? They don't respect the green and white by simply slacking and not playing hard. There is no effort. They are not representing Ohio University to the fullest.

Every player on this team is slacking right now. I cannot seriously look at anyone and say they have "heart." I cannot say that any of them are playing ALL OUT every game. I used to think Treg would do it. Nope. He looked like he believes he's an NBA small forward tonight. GET IN THE POST AND REBOUND AND DO THE DIRTY WORK TREG! Nope, he's out to get his like everyone else.

It's sad that I go to the MAC Tourney every year and I know FOR A FACT that this team will not be in Cleveland. It's sad that Saul won't just put Frayer, Williams and Thomas in to shake it up. It's sad that with Dartis, Block, Gollon, Doug Taylor, Simmons, Kaminski and Dozier that we are going to be contenders next year without what was supposed to be one of our best players in history (Mo). And it's sad that Mo or Bean or both will make an All-MAC team this year. Neither deserves it.

There's your analysis. Timely and truthful. Feel free to rebut after drinking more Kool-Aid.

I saw an awful lot of hustle tonight in the second half. We just don't have all of the pieces of the puzzle in place. Mo is talented but he is weak and gets the ball taken from him all the time. He is also very athletic and coordinated. When he's down low we often don't have guys that can get the ball to him. We just have an odd assortment of veterans who don't mesh with younger players, who aren't seasoned enough to know how to play to those veteran's strengths. Saul did not inherit a cohesive unit of players and has been unable to get them to work together as a team for 40 minutes. I don't think, in general, that hustle is the major problem. Execution and the lack of smart play at stretches in each game is, IMHO.

I said this team mailed it in two weeks ago. Nothing tonight changed my opinion. Losses with effort I can tolerate. Losses without giving a damn is another issue. Stevie's quotes after the Kent loss really are telling. I agree Bobcat1998...timely and truthful.

And just three years ago this program was one missed free throw from reaching the elite eight. Now we are last in the east and 11th in the MAC.

Tonight was the worst Convo atmosphere I can remember for a game when school was in session. Where in the world was everyone? I hope nobody was there for their first OU game. There's no way they'd want to come back for more.

Reminded me of a game back in '08 or '09 I remember when we were playing Akron and literally no students showed up. There were like 10 guys in the O Zone. It was a weird night...believe we lost in OT but can't recall for sure.

Tonight wasn't quite as bad as I remember that, but it was pretty bad. There was almost a resignation that we would lose before the ball was even tipped. Everyone was just kind of "there"...but didn't actually think we had any remote chance of winning.

Also, seems to me that our out-of-town season ticket holders have absolutely mailed it in too. A very "local" crowd this evening. Then again, don't think I'd drive from Columbus to see this team either.

I've said it before , I'll say it again , I have seen better d3 guards this year then anything on Ohio. There was a point in the first half when a rebound came out off a missed BG shot and 3 Ohio players stood there looking at it while a BG player grabbed it and put it back in. That says it all for this year. Nobody really gives a damn.

Lotta locals not there either. Ozone mailed it in not long after season start. Season ticket holders couple games later. One bad season in a decade and people can't handle it (JSF) - Best Fans In The Mac lookin' pretty fickle........

I actually give the students credit...IMO student crowds were good much deeper into the season than I expected. Even at the snow game Saturday, students turned out much better than the "old zone" for sure.

About 1:10 for me also. Trouble is Nelsonville is dead now. Hmmm kind of like the basketball team.

Thank you for making my point clearly for me. I think many of us gave this team time and the benefit of the doubt. This whole topic was started by someone who has PRIDE in this program. By someone who LOVES this program. By someone who wears the green and white proudly in Buckeye country. And as someone who has a PASSION for this program I don't want to SETTLE for having "one bad season in a decade" and I certainly don't want to settle for a bad season with a lineup of guys who could care less. If we were fighting and scrapping every night and losing I wouldn't say a word. I don't call out Bean for poor shot selection or Tony for shooting 3's. I call them all out for effort. They have earned that (or not earned it) depending on how you look at it.

Mo is as talented as anyone we've had at Ohio University so your question is simply answered with "no one." He would start for every team in the MAC. But starting for every team doesn't make him one of the top 15 guys in the league. Talent-wise yes, but I can make a list easily of 15 guys I would take over him if I were starting a team from scratch in this league. That's my point.

I think the key in your first argument was the quote "supposed to be one of the best players ever in the program" or something like that. People built Mo up preseason to be this thing he was never going to be. The expectations were way, way too high. Good player? Yes. Great player? Sometimes. All-timer in program history? He might make 3rd team or honorable mention, and that's a stretch.

I'm in this camp. Just glad to see that Christian has also lived up to most of our predictions at BC this year. He'll be back in the MAC in 4 years.

You are right about that...It was really really bad. I understand a really poor team comes with poor crowds, but damn. Chicken Goerge, do you have about 900 leftover chicken sandwiches? I counted 47 students in the Ozone at tip off, and it didn't change much from there.

I brought along 2 friends, a fallen Bobcat who has his head up the ass of OSU and a fallen Falcon who also has his head up the ass of OSU. Pretty sure last night did nothing to change their view of MAC basketball being of poor quality, irrelevant, and not worth watching.

Bobcats move to 0-4 in MAC play at home with me in attendance. Those first 30 minutes were brutal to watch, we were lucky to only be down 20ish. I could offer praise, criticism, analysis...but I have nothing earth shattering to share.

Did you expect him to win at BC this year? BC has won more games this year than they did last year already. How dare Jim Christian think about his family and take a better job when he should be thinking about you and taking care of your interests instead.

This thread is playing out like a bad sitcom. Stomping your feet and demanding accountability is laughable. Yep, this year has gone poorly, much worse than almost anyone envisioned. I too had hoped that Saul would be able to slap some duct tape on this roster and put a competitive team together but it hasn't worked out. He's asked players to do things they aren't capable of doing (like know that we have two handfuls down low who are matchup nightmares when they get the ball near the basket and look for them before you look for your own shot). But this is just a result of circumstances. We've got recruits from three different coaching staffs on the court and each staff was looking for different things. It stinks that JC left. It stinks that JG left. But that's the reality of having a mid-major budget. If Saul is successful he's going to leave as well and probably well before his 10 year proclamation. It's going to happen and we are more than likely going to struggle the year after he leaves and people will stomp their feet, wring their hands and declare that it is unacceptable.

I missed last night's game so I can't speak to the effort delivered against BG but for the most part these kids are working hard this year. The problem is that we aren't working wisely. Our defensive cohesiveness has been pretty bad all year.

And sorry but Mo is a top 5 player in the league. He's just being asked to do more than he should have to do in the offensive end. Next game just watch what he and Tony do on each possession. It's maddening seeing all the missed opportunities.

Why beat a dead horse? We could copy and paste the same responses from just about every game thread this season. We are having a down year with a new coach. It happens. I'm optimistic for the future. Go Bobcats!

Oh, man. I apologize. I had no idea. Hold on. I'm sure I have a ribbon or something around here...

Quote:expand_more

And here's where you run off the rails. Nobody's asking you to "settle" for anything. Is there ANYBODY here saying this is OK? Should you be happy? No. I'm not. Nobody here is. I've largely restrained myself from saying what I think publicly because it will do no good. But to say the guys "could care less" (and to quote "Weird Al," "that means you do care- at least a little") is an accusation you can't back up. They're not playing the way you or I would want, but they're still playing. Effort doesn't always mean slapping the floor and diving for loose balls, especially if the effort is misguided. You can't tell me they're not trying out there, especially with all the shots they're launching. They're just not trying the right way.

All of them? Ha. This is why I said what I said. We pat ourselves on the back for how great of fans we are. Then, we hit one rough stretch and we can't wait to throw a hissy fit and throw our own players and coaches under the bus. To say all the players on the team aren't giving effort is either ignorant or malicious. Which is it?

1998, Fear Leon, etc etc etc etc. Guys, please back away from the ledge, and don't jump just yet. Let's give our new coach and our program some time to re-load and return to being competitive, let alone dominant , in the MAC. Three coaches in five years is a sure recipe to serve up what we are now seeing. Anyone close to this program who knows much about Division 1 basketball in general, and specifically the MAC, did not enter this season with the unreal expectations shared by many of our regular posters on this site. What we have seen this year should also silence the J.C. haters who did not understand enough about the game to recognize the coaching job that was done here the last two seasons with very average talent to work with.
It will take time for our new staff to get settled into the Convo and to begin rebuilding our program. It is not going to happen over night. Unless there are some dominant junior college studs stashed away someplace in some secret room in the Convo, we all need to make sure that our expectations for next season align with the talent level that we will have on campus for Saul's first full year at Ohio. Re-building this program is a distance run, and not a sprint.
Hopefully our fan base will stay with this program and give this staff the support they will need to get us back to where we all want to be !
