I'm tuned into UM vs the Illini right now. Planning to catch the Kent versus Zippy game later. I think Carolina and L'Ville play later. Any others?

I'm hoping John's guys can get a W today and tomorrow. I'd love to see them go Dancin'.

I have 'em on Tune In. This is a good one.

I'm disappointed for the Illini. That was a dreadful performance.

I'm guessing this is how their AD will look at it.

Is John Groce The Right Guy For Illinois?

I'm sure the folks in Illinois who think they should be where they were when Self was there want him out already. But to me, they have to ask themselves who they'll get that's better. They shouldn't forget about the coaches who turned them down prior to Groce agreeing to take the job. Add to that losing a senior PG and team leader for the whole year and consider that they were "this close" to getting in anyway, and I think that staff did a pretty good job.

Kent State was pitiful. Had the Zips, but just could not make anything. Good win for the Zips, I hate to say.

Keith Dambrot is Jim Christian 2.0.

Are you saying that Dambrot will never win an NCAA Tournament game?

I'm not sure I'd call that "pitiful". At the end, in one possession, Brewer had two shots that looked like they were going down that rolled out. If Reggie McAdam's long three doesn't go in, Kent is advancing.

I'll give Dambrot credit for keeping his program among the league's best year after year, but in their three NCAA tournament appearances under him, they've lost by 13, 13 and 46, and none of the teams that beat them did anything noteworthy after.

To paraphrase a line from Glengarry Glen Ross, "To give Akron the MAC's NCAA bid would be like throwing it away."

(Maybe I'm just bitter...I'm probably bitter.)

I am not a Keith Dambrot fan. I have known him since 8th grade and he was a punk even then.

But...the guy can coach. We might not like his methods or even the types of citizens he recruits, but he does win at an impressive rate.

Several games back, I noted during an in-game chat session that I thought Dambrot would probably have gotten more out of our team this year than Saul had. Not an attack on Saul; just an acknowledgement that Dambrot's style would have better matched the prevailing attitude in the locker room. An insider told me recently that players complained to AD staff members about Saul being "too nice." Yeah, they're kids, and kids look for excuses.

Anyway, Born immediately replied to my claim with: "SBH, you are so full of shit. Nobody could make these kids play harder." The first part might be true in some cases, but I still believe we would have finished with a slightly better record with KD this year.

Not necessarily. I do believe Akron has had bad luck when it comes to tournament draws (and injuries), whereas we've had considerable luck. But seemingly no matter what, Akron is always a factor in the regular season and in Cleveland. And he might well find a way to win a game in the Dance at some point.
