Just kidding. But wouldn't that be about right for the NCAA?

In a way I'm glad he wasn't. Would have wasted a year of his eligibility with the Bobcats. We would have been better, no doubt, but still middle of the pack.

I'll always wonder if Saul didn't sort of plan it that way for he and Simmons.

Of course, that's contingent on him getting a medical redshirt for missing his freshman year with an injury.

Unless he gets a 6th year Medical redshirt it actually wouldn't have affected his eligibility. He already redshirted once so he only has two years left.

I think you guys are missing the point of my post and 100% Cats agreement. Why waste a year playing this past year when he can have at least two productive years the next two years.

Yep. Not sure his eligibility would have made a huge difference on this year's team.

I think you are missing bigtilly's point. Whether Kaminski had played this past season or sat, he still was going to be eligible in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. Since NOT playing this past season still leaves him with the exact same eligibility that playing would have left him, I don't see what playing would have wasted.

If he doesn't have a case for a 6th year of eligibility, I'm not sure anyone does.

He should have a good case since he was injured his first year at Michigan State, but the NCAA is just so inconsistent that it makes me nervous.

Exactly. The last thing we needed this year was another guy sitting out there jacking up threes. We had plenty of those already.

That assumes someone would have got the ball to him...........

When you make it 49% of the time I wouldn't exactly call it "jacking up" threes.

I was referring to our team last year, not KK. We had too many guys shooting too many threes.

I don't understand that. If he had 2 years of eligibility when he came here and if he had played this past year how would he still have 2 years remaining? What am I missing?

He had three years left. He used one sitting this season out.

Kenny was a redshirt freshman last year with the Spartans. When he transferred to Ohio, he was a redshirt sophomore. He could not play without sitting out a year without a waiver, which he never got. He also couldn't "freeze" his class status, because he already did so his true freshman year at MSU. Now next year, he will be a redshirt Junior.

In some cases, the NCAA grants a 6th year of eligibility, if 1 year was the standard redshirt or transfer situation, and another was injury. With Kenny, it is a bit of a gray area because both those situations were in the same year, and then he had a transfer year later. If he ends up seeking and getting a 6th year, then Kenny not playing this year was a blessing. If he ends up not getting it, then it is a bummer because we'll only have him for 2 seasons, not 3.

Thanks for the answers to my question. Between JFS's and Andrew Ruck's explanations it finally sunk in.

By already redshirting and playing one season he had 3 years to play. By transferring he had to sit out a year of eligibility but was hoping that NCAA would waive that requirement so he could play this past year.

The only hope for 3 seasons is the rare 6th year of eligibility.

Thanks again.
