I am sitting here watching CMU and Beefalo in the MAC championship game. Two things are obvious. First thing is how much I miss watching the Bobcats in the Q playing for the men's championship. Secondly, it even more obvious how much the tournament misses the hoards of Ohio fans that help fill the Q.

Realistically what would be a reasonable expectation for the men's team next year? How Greta would it have been to take in the men's and women's game today? Awesome!

Doubling our win total would be a nice goal. But realistically with very little senior leadership I would settle for all the players buying in and no talk of locker room problems. Get me to Cleveland and I'd be satisfied.

Hey, anything's possible. The Women were 9-21 last year, 27-4 and MAC champs this year. You never know.

It's VERY early but right now I think we'll be a middle of the pack team in the MAC. I would anticipate Simmons, Jordy, Block, and Kaminski to be the main new contributors. Add in Campbell, Setty, Laster, Taylor, and Harley... Lacking size but definitely an athletic squad.

I don't care one whit about the talent right now and completely about the mindset of each and every one of those guys. What do they want? What kind of team do they want this to be? Are they coachable? Those answers will inform the season's success.

We will have decent size. We won't have anyone truly huge but on the wings we will be bigger. Simmons will outmuscle guys like Evans and Robotham/Jackson while Tony with another year will be stronger inside. Kaminski I heard is learning to play more inside and out and is already built strong. Another year of lifting for Khari, Ryan Taylor and Laster will help and we will have actual SHOOTERS next year with Block, Gollon and Dartis! I would reasonably say 10-8 or 11-7 MAC with 20 wins total? Would be nice.

At the very least I expect a reversal of this year's 10-20 to 20-10. I wouldn't be surprised at 24-6, or something like that.

The big priority in the off-season should be to work on D. We're probably not going to win giving up 70+ pts a game, especially since we lose about 60% of our offense from this season to graduation. We have to find about 40 pts a game on offense and knock at least five pts a game off the opponents' total from this season. Watching various tournaments this weekend and it was clear that good tight D charges up teams and creates offense. Most of the time this season we were standing around on offense and listless on defense.

I always have a hard time with comments such as " what kind of team do they want to be" and "are they coachable". You don't "care about talent"? Do you somehow believe that if you get a good coach and the team "just believes" and really "wants to win"(as if they don't) that is all it takes? Ask Coach K if he can win with a few coachable believers.

To those that believe this premise, what makes you think that our guys don't want to win and are not coachable? When is the other team just better?

You don't need great inside play to be good in the MAC. Central Michigan just had a great season without any real inside presence. Their tallest starter, John Simons operates outside the arc mainly. Remarkably similar to Kenny Kaminski actually.

Having Campbell down low is more than enough post play.

Talent doesn't matter when the team refuses to come together. Talent doesn't matter when they are unable or unwilling to run the offense. Talent doesn't matter when the players don't listen to the coach.

No, that's absurd. But I figured you'd be smart enough to know the guys we have DO have some talent I'm not talking about guys taken off the Front Four courts.

They might want to win, but they wanted to win their way. Did you ever get around to seeing them? Some of them were not coachable. Some of them didn't listen. They wanted to play on their terms only. That has nothing to do with the other team.

More similar to Sophomore Will Regan, before Regan forgot how to shoot.

It's hard to project Kaminski out because his role in Michigan State's offense was literally to just stand in the corner and drain 3's. Not that he couldn't do more, but they were loaded with Appling, Payne, and Harris and that's all they needed him to do.

He also doesn't have very good rebound numbers, but again he had such great rebounders around him that he was missing out on rebounds to teammates, not opponents. I expect him to be a completely different player for us.

I'm less concerned about specific numbers of wins than I am about seeing a team that's more consistent on defense, and in decision making on offense. For months I've believed that they'll be automatically better next year simply as a result of more competition for PT, and more depth. Maybe I over estimate the importance of that.

As for bigs, we have to account for the potential of Wadley, Taylor, and Dozier. At least one of those guys will emerge if not all of them.

I also would guess at least one of the five freshmen to maybe redshirt. There will be 13 scholarship players, and balancing out the classes a bit might not be a bad thing.

Ball movement and people talking on defense and hedging screens. That's what I expect next year. Everything else is cream cheese.

But Dartis and Block are going to be key pieces if not starters (at least one). I also read that Treg could graduate early and transfer without punishment. He looked off at the end of the year as well.

And as for Kaminski, he will be a matchup nightmare in the MAC. Dude will be able to shoot and from what I heard from Arkley this year he has spent his year away working on his all-around game which shows he wants to make an impact and he realizes this is the MAC and not the Big 10. He will make an impact. Just like Simmons only averaging 2 points per game for Houston. This is different and he will most certainly make a difference as a true PG for our squad. Toss in complements like Tony, RT, Block, Dartis, Laster, Setty...think about it, this team will only have to gel to win some games.

Simmons is Dennis Johnson. Kaminski is Larry Bird.

Are you serious? There was no one on the team this year that could not be considered to exhibit at least some significant degree of being "un-coachable"? Dig around more - it won't take much to find the answer is "Yes" - if you do indeed have any significant connects to the team or coaching staff this year

I don't think Ohio has the luxury of redshirting that many players. This is basketball. Kids need to play significant minutes to figure things out and get better. Sure you can get better in practice, but the games are a totally different thing.

Where did you read that Treg could graduate early and transfer? Please provide a source rather than just saying things to say things. And how many schools would take him? Another transfer isn't going to do him much good.

I'm excited that we have so many incoming players who are known for their shooting ability. That could make our offense very exciting if the ball movement is good.

Defensively, I'm concerned about our post defense. Campbell and Kaminski are both not exceptionally long. I fear more athletic bigs might be able to get them into foul trouble.

I doubt we redshirt anyone unless Taylor's knee isn't fully healed. Dozier graduated from high school last year and so he's already a year older than most incoming freshman.

Jason Arkley mentioned it in a column at the end of the year in talking about recruits and scholarships.

I considered it possible that one player might redshirt, but certainly not two. I've wondered for the last couple months about Wadley. Honestly, I hope he stays, because I think his game was starting improve, and his length is a real asset.
