At Alumni College last year, Crowl taught a class, Shakespeare in Film. Thoroughly delightful!
At the beginning of the class, he pointed to a stack of one of his books and said that the university had bought them, so anyone who wanted a signed copy was welcome to one after the class.
As the class ended, I was among those who queued up for a signed copy. When I stepped in front of Crowl, he looked up at my name badge, smiled and said, "Mike, you're one of the guys who brings sanity to BobcatAttack." Yep, he's a lurker. He then inscribed the book "To a fellow Shakespeare and Bobcat fan. Sam Crowl"

I saw Sam the other day and asked him when he would be going to previews. Yes, listening to one of his lectures is like going to a Broadway play. He just gave me a big grin. Great guy and a fun fellow to play golf with too.

He's a performer, and I think he's quite tickled to be down on the hardwood performing to a packed Convo after 45 years of watching Bobcat teams perform there from his seat in the lower bowl. His section has had pitiful attendance in recent years, but he has been steadfast in his dedication to the 'Cats. The only plus to the empty seats around him is that many of us can slide down to enjoy (or not enjoy) the games with him!
