So far Mountaineers are using the Bulls. What a great atmosphere it would have been had the Bobcats been playing WVU in Columbus. I am guessing the Cats would have had a huge turnout.

Here's hoping the Bulls turn it around quick.

Huggy;s teams muddy up the game so much ....one of those "go out and keep pushing, shoving and bodying up, they can't call every thing".

Ugly bball to be sure. I am not a fan of suNY buff or Hurley but I am surprised he is so well behaved when he is outside the MAC.

I always root for MAC in the tourney. Plus wins for UB means $$$ for OU.

He should be glad Buffalo didn't get to bring MAC refs or Huggy would be proved wrong on that one quickly...

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Buffs pull this out with all the fool trouble that WVU is in.

Ohio can finish ninth and win a game in 2010 or make to the sweet 16 in 2012 but when was the last time MAC team other than the Bobcats won a tournament game. I'll bet its been 10 years. Used to be routine like the WCC and MVC winning games.

Chris Kaman lead CMU won a game in 2003, and of course Kent State Elite 8 in 2002.

At least Buffalo gave WVU a good game. They put up a much better effort than any Keith Dambrot or Jim Christian team ever has in the tourny.

If only the MVC sponsored FBS football!!! I would want Ohio to jump in a heartbeat. This is not the place for this discussion but what the heck I have nothing else going on. Doesn't a conference with Arkanas State, Illinois State, Indiana State, Ohio, Marshall, Miami, Louisiana, Missouri State, Texas State, Toledo sound like an interesting conference? If Buffalo is able to rebrand as New York add them. I know it's really spread out and won't happen but I just thought it would be interesting. The names just sound bigger and more interesting. Other than Buffalo the states all border each other although it mixes the midwest and south.

Not really too exciting to me, sorry. It sounds like some of the other put together conferences. Way too widespread for me.

I never said exciting. I said interesting. My only point is all the major conferences are anchored by schools carrying the states names. If those remaining schools banned together it may be the beginning of something that would bear fruit at some point. I personally think it's at least as interesting as what we have now but with more long term potential.

Conferences are banded together by common sports, money, interests and interests/missions... Also In the past geography and common rivalries. Now it just seems to be the best deal and a money grab. I am not sure the anchors are all anchored by carrying state names. http://www.bigeast.com/ , http://www.wccsports.com/ , http://www.themwc.com , and besides NC, NC State and UVA the ACC is not really state school anchored http://www.theacc.com/ , nor is CUSA http://www.conferenceusa.com/ot/c-usa-members.html Aside from the hisotrically strong BIG, PAC, SEC and Big 12 as major players I don't see the others anchored by the state institutions.

The conference you propose would incur some pretty big travel costs that schools like Dayton, Detroit and marshall could attest to.

These state names are not interesting a bit to me, or exciting. What in the world is any commonality except the state names. You're kidding, right? Why did you leave out Idaho and Nevada?

Interesting is one way to describe it. Horrible is another.

Sorry if I don't get th4e rebrand. Albany is a SUNY campus as is Buff yet they do not have NY as the prominent name nor does Binghamton or Stony Brook. One has to wonder if the SUNY state wide Board of GOV realizes what the department is trying to do. if someone can explain how one university in the entire system gets to claim NY as theirs I am all ears. I get Cal Berkley because historically they predate the system that is UCLA, UCSB etc and I understane the second tier of those called Cat State ...fullerton, northridge irvine etc but I am at a loss for the NY moniker. Cornell is the land grant university for NY and is not as pretentious as Buff'lo. The SUNY is pretty large with multiple facilities. I just do not get it. Splain please

If Northern Iowa and one other -- Indiana St or Illinois St -- were to make the commitment to upgrade their football facilities and jump to D1A, they'd be good for the MAC in both football and b-ball. But I can't see Ohio in a conference with schools like Arky St, Tex St or ULL. Southern schools never seem to mesh well with schools north of the Ohio River; don't know why or what it is, but it just doesn't seem to work. Might be the travel; might be lack of commonality; could be residue from the Civil War, I don't know. It's still too early to assess the move by Syracuse and Pitt to the ACC (BC has always been an anomaly there). And the American Conf is largely a hodgepodge bound together by desperation.

It was just food for thought. But apparently it didn't taste all that great. I'm sure if there is another directional out there we can add them. My personal favorite is South Carolina Upstate. Truly the ultimate directional!

Actually, the ultimate directionals are the MOs: SEMO, SWMO (now just Missouri St), NWMO and NEMO (now Truman State). I'm waiting for North-by-Northwest South Dakota State (maybe in Rapid City?).

I really don't care if a school is a directional so long as they represent well. Southern Cal is a directional and you never hear Herbie putting them down based on their name. NIU knocks off B10 schools every year and Northern Iowa regularly beats Iowa and Iowa St. Do well on the court/field and nobody cares what your name is.

Buffalo really let it slip away. Lots of missed shots close to the tin, lots of missed free throws. The block on Shannon Evans' dunk attempt was pretty nasty.

In case anyone missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOWUKSv1Nas

Maybe Akron can rebrand themselves to be called "Ohio Upstate", or "Ohio Upstart".
