If that's all it took. Duquesne put one in recently at the Palumbo Center. Also a brand new practice facility with coaches offices and team lounge. Very nice. Look up how much success it brought(bought?)them.

I was making a joke, of course, regarding the scoreboard. I know some think that things like that make a big difference. I do not. One takeaway from that article is the WCC and Gonzaga. How much would the rest of the league hurt if they sought out greener pastures. The MAC is in good shape as long as we stay together. I don't see anyone in our league breaking the barrier. Toledo is the biggest market and could do it, but no one wants to spend the money.

I have reread that article a few times as it sums up the several atricles that alluded to the fact of the P5 conferences getting fat while the rest fight for scraps. The NCAA leaves it to the conferences to divvy up the shares. I think before the meltdown several years back I was unhappy with the distribution as teams that do not invest still bemefit the same as schools who aspire to make the tourney and advance. The money is kind of obscene with no chance for those on the outside to break in....I thought with the conference shake ups some of that might be redistributed but aside from teams like Butler, Utah and X that ascended conferences there were not many realignments in the money.

We are putting resources into ascending the MAc and staying on top after establishing a sustaining program. I still feel those schools showing a desire to get there should reap the benefit of their investment.

No doubt Welsh Ryan and Mcgaw in general are dated ....and not like Hinkle or the Palestra but they have been sprucing them up along the way and it is actually a decent atmosphere...I prefer Loyola's redo just to the south but Mcgaw is not really as bad as some make it out to be. The BIG has older and smaller places. Rutgers only seats 8K which is 2K less than Northwestern but they do not have bleachers either.

I am wondering how prominently Northwestern's long history as a BIG cofounder, the mission statement of the U in line with the BIG's academic presence along with the depth of their non revenue sports keeps the BIG from getting hard line with their basketball and football presence....although football has popped up decently through the years.

JSF, you hit that right on the head.

The mids if they make the tourney regularly get labeled a basketball school and that can self perpetuate recruiting. A lot of players like the idea of playing at a school where basketball is the school main athletic focal point. The challenge for a lot of schools making the climb up is scheduling. Some of the schools in the MAC (BGSU, CMU) are viewed as no win situations by other mids to play. Tough opponents without the glamour.

Agreed, Perimeter. It's similar to Major League Baseball. Some at the top are spending and those at the bottom are collecting the luxury tax. You could say that Northwestern and other Big 5 schools are collecting a tax for being the conference whipping boys. They all know where they stand in the food chain.

I am not sure OK ST, G town, Marquette, Pitt or Seton Hall have a very good ROI. tO$U, nebraska, Rutgers are BIG teams below Northwestern but they are not getting as much focus. Why is that? Took out the non power conference teams for the most part. Figures are interesting and useful when talking bout things that require facts.
