Why not Dambrot? He's gotten results for a long time. He's not the recruiter that Shaka is, but he's still a good coach. He'd triple his salary potentially with a move to VCU.
Anthony Grant is interesting, as is Capel.
Because their fanbase, as the others such as the Zags, Butler, Wichita and mids that have ascended, is feeling the entitlement of being a "blueblood" in their own eyes. "Getting results" is not making the tourney every, Final Fours and being a common household word where your kids may want a sweatshirt for Xmas. In my day it was UCLA. I don't see kids asking for UCLA sweatshirts like I see WSU, VCU walking around malls these days. Those fans would never settle for Dambrot and would be angry if the AD went that direction. Good gosh, Shaka and VCU have kept a record in the NCAA that makes the last decade of Texas bball pale. Never past hte round of 32, missing the tourney and generally not being relevant in an area where AAU hoops between, Dallas, Houston and the rest of the area is obscenely rich with talent. VCU is and has been relevant. Texas thinks they just bought tourney success. VCU is going to want to replace that in their next hire.
It is extremely interesting to see Grant and Capel on there. Wonder if there is a split between those that feel jilted and those that feel Capel and Grant were the architects of their success and are welcomed home.
