Northern Iowa locked up Jacobson to a long term extension, also. MVC keeping their coaches in the MVC.

As for the Shockers, it helps if you have someone like the Koch brothers as supporters. Of course I mean their wealth.

Beyond the Koch family, Wichita has a lot of other oil and aircraft money. Heirs to Cessna, Beechcraft as well as some of the “ground floor” people at Learjet. The first Pizza Hut was literally a hut on the campus of Wichita State and the founding family I believe continue to pump cash into the university.

$3+ million at Wichita State. Holy crap!

I assume Wichita State will have a huge student protest and letter signed by dozens of faculty complaining. Right?

A quick check shows that Witchita State's home attendence average for 2013-2014 was 10,732 per game. The average home attendence for all of the Mo Valley during the same time was 5,599 per game as opposed to the MAC's average of 2,869. As for the Mo Valley's Championship games (aka Arch Madness) their average attendence was 10,198 per game as opposed to the MAC's 3,026 per game. It should be pointed out that Ohio's home attendence during the same time was somewhat better than the rest of the MAC at 6,124.

Home attendance of 10K. IIRC you should look at their home baseball nos as well.

Waiting for someone to use the "what else is there to do there?" or "with the internet there is so much more to choose from" to take the opposite slant. My friends that grew up in Wichita ( and attended KU living right up the hill from the Phog) have shown me that Wichita has a lot to do but insist that WSU hoops is the "social event" thing to do. They have created a huge interest in the U and the teams there. Now that the last 2 coaches have built on the interest that bumps off those earlier teams with Sasha Dudovich and Co they have really established a market. They have taken Butler, the Zags , VCU models and taken it to the plains. Interesting how those schools broke through VIA hoops.

Why would anyone choose Wichita over Austin?

You ever been to Wichita?

Beautiful city. 49th largest in the US that re invests in itself. Just below Tulsa, Minneapolis and cleveland and just above new orleans and st louis. It is a really nice town and like Athens, Lexington or Auburn the University is one of the centerpieces. Great city, great people and a 3M paycheck. I dunno...the traffic in Austin is killer. The night and social life is great but at the end of the day you are still a basketball coach with really great situation where you are....comparing both... I dunno, having been in Wichita and had friends from there...it is a really great town that would make you ask...Why Dayton? Why Pittsbugh? Why Cincy, Spokane, Madison or any of a number of places hoops coaches could end up? Knowing a bit about a place and a situation is always helpful before throwing out blanket statements. Ya never know what ya don't know. There are probably a lot of "anyone" who may go to both and take Austin or Wichita.

....and to be honest, if you have spent time with folks who have lived in Kansas, COlorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska...there is enough anti Texas sentiment to affect your view of the state. Never know what the money, expectations, recruiting etc that affected his choice.
