Anybody remember who Smart turned down after VCU's fist tourney run? I'm just curious to see if the loyalty he showed VCU was rewarded or if jumping at the first job offer (a la Groce) is the way to go.

He turned down the Illinois job before Groce was hired if I remember correctly.

yep.....now there are a fe3w incensed fans over there incredulously asking why he did not jump to Illinois and 3 years later he takes Texas. All sorts of innuendo that Illinois>Texas

SOme level headed posters pointing out that his wife and the climate and a variety of other things not the least is the incredible talent pool.

He and a few other notables passed on the IL job. Texas expectations are a bout an eighth of those in Illinois.
