I can't wait to blow this up and start over. Bad thing is that we'll lose Ndour, who's one of the lone bright spots most nights.

This program won't be competitive for at least a couple/few years. And I hate waiting. You have to go back to 2002-04 to find the last time this program had losing seasons two times in a row, and that was the only time since the 1980s. At this point, I don't see how it's possible we avoid doing that again.

Change the year of some of these posts to 2009 and they'd be almost a carbon copy of Groce's first year.

What's embarrassing is our biggest rival losing 6 of the previous 7 match ups. I want to beat Miami every time as much as the next Bobcat but rivalries need to keep the bad blood going, maybe winning on Charlie's day will light a spark in that pathetic, apathetic excuse of a student body in Oxford. Like Charlie said "if this league is going to be real good Miami and Ohio have to be real good too." Unfortunately this year neither team is good but hopefully today's game sparks some ill feelings in the underclassmen of both teams.

Our freshmen guards were completely overwhelmed and embarrassed by the defensive pressure from Miami, no need for us to pile on. Hopefully that feeling will burn deep in their bellies and they will forever feel the hatred of Miami that we all feel.

"Good, use your aggressive feelings, let the hate flow through you." - The Emperor.

Embarrassed to be a Bobcat...NEVER.
Embarrassed by OHIO's performance yesterday...ABSOLUTELY. That's why I started the thread this way. We shot 3 FTs in the game and got outscored by 25 points over the final 30 minutes to our biggest rival. A rival that has been down for several years and last time I checked, the current Redhawks squad doesn't feature a Wally Szczerbiak, Devin Davis or Ron Harper.

No OHIO basketball team should ever take the court and look like its never played the game before. I can handle losses, but have trouble accepting losing with less than maximum effort. Saul pretty much said it himself yesterday after the game. He has guys who won't even huddle and talk...now think about that for a second. Yes, that is embarrassing.

I will always root for OHIO and if the team gives the impression that it's mailed it in....so be it. I'll still head into March believing a miracle can happen and Bean scores 35 points per game in the MAC tournament.

One of the sad things that has happened is the program never fully took advantage of the Sweet 16 season. We had a chance to take this thing to another level, but missed a golden opportunity over the last three years.

I don't know how much disappointment one should carry around because Ohio didn't capitalize on the Sweet 16 run.

The list of similarly situated schools to do so are a very short list. But I can immediately name Miami, Kent State and Ball State that failed to become juggernauts on the heels of their singular success.

being a Cincinnati resident I am also hearing the frustration of UC and XU fans. the only happy local fans are members of Big Blue Nation, and lordy lordy are they insufferable.

I fully expected Ohio to lose at Miami, especially on Charlie Day. what was disappointing was the manner in which they lost. fugly!

this season sorta reminds me of the year Andy Kennedy coached UC, after Huggins dismissal. the team had to scramble to replace recruits last minute - thanks to the moronic actions of Nancy Zimmer (and the behind the scenes backstabbing by "cheaper in the country" car dealer Jeff Wyler). what I don't recall then is any lack of spirit or dejected/moody body LA guage.

I guess I'm not sure what you mean when you say "embarrassed." Are you saying you, personally, are embarrassed? Are you saying you're embarrassed for them? Or something else?

I took it that a fan was personally embarrassed. That is standard across most boards when these threads come up. Should have asked that question I guess.

Personally I don't apologize or feel embarrassed by what I can't control. Even to the idjuts from Miami sitting in front of me yesterday turning around and looking smugly at me every basket as the home team came racing back. Not me on the floor....quit looking at me just because I have an allegiance. I was not in YOUR face when we were beating you early on.

Good post and I agree. But sadly, every school has their share of knuckleheads. Even ours. I actually enjoy seeing visiting fans at our home games. I want them to enjoy their visit, enjoy my school, enjoy the game, I just don't want their team to win. The experience home fans have on visiting fans is pretty substantial. I have been to games and places I like that have been ruined by fan behavior and have enjoyed places I didn't like that much because of positive fan experiences. It's why it drives me nuts seeing our fans act foolish towards opposing fans. I'm not saying it's a problem here, but it does occur here just like everywhere. Be loud, be proud, just don't be an idiot.

Sounds like it should be a banner in the Convo, or at least on some t-shirts for sale in the area where they sell Bobcat gear.

The constant changing of coaches is a big reason for that.

Yes but the worst is when these are fellow "fans" who have become so vocally angry at OUr team's performance in an individual game that they just rip rip rip and get pissy with looks and comments as others continue to support support support. These aren't home court examples but I had a pair of these idiots behind me in '05 both in Cleveland against Buffalo and in Nashville against Florida. When we got down big they jumped ship and went negative Moriarty on me. I still dream about completing that comeback against David Lee, Corey Brewer and other NBA bound Gators almost as much to make a point to the clown behind me as to continuing the run.

They may not win 25 games, but they'll be plenty competitive next year. More depth than this year's squad as a whole. Most of the roster will be Saul & staff recruits.

I think there needs to be a reality check with expectations of this year's team. We are 9-14. That means we are not a very good team right now. If we were good we would be 14-9. So to lose to a to a similar team on the road is not embarrassing. Some are acting as if we are the superior team and are blowing these games. We've had some good wins and are capable on some nights. Maybe we make a run in the MAC tourney. It can happen.

Big black eye and a hotly debated topic on our local board. That is up in "Da Region" where they have a different time zone (with Chicago) and think they are more Illinois than Indiana. Gary/Hammond/Whiting and those areas hate the downstate and always claim they have better players and anyone south of us 30 has no concept of hoops. They are mean, undisciplined and try to be inner city tough.

Both schools had the remainder of the season cancelled by the IHSAA prompting a quote from a former director dating back to Everett Case (google that one for some bball history) and his scandals in the 1930's "The rule is clear and the penalty severe."

I am OK with the IHSAA finally showing some spine and telling those parents it is not ok to go out on the floor following an malicious attack by a player on another player. Compounding the poor sportsmanship and actions with parents getting out of hand is insane. Officials got it right. Call the game, clear the gym and get the governing body involved. If parents and kids do not know there are consequences for actions there is no way they will be better humans down the road

When I was doing games in Indiana back in the '70s the Gary/Hammond/Whiting teams would always bring their own refs when they played south of 30 or east of 31 'cause they let 'em play. Really physical; some nights almost a mauling.

That's hysterical. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. Earlier today my brother and I were just debating the merits of Press Maravich. I said he got lucky twice, one in being able to recruit his son and the other was when he took over a good NC State team from Everett Case. Other than that he wasn't much of a coach. Didn't think Everett Case would come up in two conversations in one day.

Pretty kewl. Surprised Case does not come up more often. The gym Blue Chips was shot in is named after him....more importantly is his contributions to hoops.Pep bands, Cutting the nets at championships, Numbers on uniforms, The ACC tourney, bringing basketball to NC replacing football as king....the list is pretty long and significant. He deserves his own exhibit in the Hall.

Welllllll

Griffith sued the IHSAA and a lake County court upheld it forcing the IHSAA to pu them in the tourney. Despite their average season they mde it through the tourney and will play in the state 3a Final next week. Their parents and followers have taken to the local message boards and are rubbing it in the noses of the entire state as if the entire population was persecuting thier children who have always been lil angels and perfect citizens. EEEESH. The region certainly has a different opinion of what is right and wrong. The same parents who are out on the floor hhere are the most vocal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l4I3QFEtyw...

That was what most of the state expected from the Griffith game. Them folks above US 30 don't play. I fully expected to see a gun come out at that game but you found one in Philly that went the extra mile.
