I would like to text Rob Senderoff a congratulatory note.

Anyone here know how I could go about doing so?

Why not just spread the sarcastic love across the league:

This is the greatest scenario ever for us and anyone in the MAC. Senderoff seems like a good enough dude but he is a terrible coach. My buddy is a Kent guy and we live in New Phila, not far from Kent so we take in quite a few games (hitting Ray's of course before and after) so I've seen him in action. Terrible in-game coach, terrible motivator. Seems like a good recruiter of thugs and transfers. The non-qualifier acceptance Kent allows (like Kron) helps him. But he did nothing until this season and even then his team didn't make anything legit. He will be fired in two year's time, when Jimmy Hall exits.

He's on a current streak of 22 straight MAC related tweets. I think it's a record.

Cavs play soon though, so it will end.

Been saying this for a long time ^^^^^^. Add in that he was instrumental in putting Samson's phone and academic situations in at Indiana....you get the added benefit of possible NCAA problems surfacing later and that becomes a cherry on top (the old addage "they'll be so angry at NC and UK that the NCAA will punish Kent twice as bad")

I honestly thought this was a joke. I figured he'd be on the hot seat this past season, but then he did enough to skate by, but certainly not enough to warrant this kind of vote of confidence. I agree with the others who have posted. I guess it brings them some stability, but that dude's ceiling seems low and it's quite possible he already hit it.

A note? We should send a congratulatory basket of nuts, cheeses, chocolate and wine.

College athletics is a strange beast. Only Akron has won more games than Senderhoff's Golden Flashes the last 4 years. Yet, we all think he's mediocre and extending him is a surprise.

Grandpa's Cheesebarn would deliver.

Seriously, I'm not surprised at the extension, but I'm surprised at the length of the extension.

Kent St showed signs of moving their program forward last season.

Racking up 20-win seasons isn't nearly as impressive as it once was, especially against a weak slate of opponents. What's he done that has mattered? Is it his .500 record in the legendary CIT? The guy has never made it out of the MAC semis. He is not terrible, but he defines mediocrity.

I get it.

Mid-major head coach is the toughest job in college basketball. You either win your conference tournament once every 4 years or we think you should be replaced. I guess they all know that going in so its is no big deal.

Regarding Senderoff, the thing is that this year is as good as it gets. He had a very experienced team (ranked 11th by KenPom in experience nationally) this year that will most likely regress next season (losing Jackson, Manley and Brewer). A poor man's TOS if you will. As an Ohio fan, I don't mind guys like Senderoff, Hawkins, Coles and Witherspoon. They can put together Top 150 teams but generally don't challenge for the MAC. Although Hawkins is probably closer than a TOS/Hunter than the rest.

Ted, I'm going to disagree. I think Kent will be better next year, despite losing their backcourt. Really like Jimmy Hall and I've heard good things about some transfers that become eligible next year.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Under Senderoff Kent State is 3rd in the MAC in total wins over the last four years with 81 behind Ohio(88) and Akron(90). But look at how Kent has fared against the top teams in the league and in the MAC Tournament. Kent fans seem pretty excited about the extension, we should be too.

Senderoff v Ohio & Akron
1-4 ('12)
1-4 ('13)
2-2 ('14)
2-3 ('15)

Senderoff in the MAC Tournament
1-1 ('12)
1-1 ('13)
0-1 ('14)
0-1 ('15)

I think it's perspective. I truly believe what he's shown is mediocre for that program. They've had a strong program for almost 20 years, and it's regressed under his tutelage. Each of his four predecessors did more than he has. If he was compiling the same record at NIU or EMU, it looks different. Kent can and should have higher standards, just as we do for our own program.

Beneficial for the MAC and the Kent program most likely, but nothing that scares me.
