- Top four seeds get a bye to the quarterfinals
- Seeds 5-12 play first-round games on campus sites
- Seeds determined by winning percentage, regardless of division
- Four quarterfinal games on Thursday in Cleveland, two semis on Friday, championship on Saturday

Basically the same as it previously was from 06-11, save the old West pity #2 seed, and those few years they put the entire thing in Cleveland.

Had they also agreed to stop even recognizing divisions in basketball it would have been perfect.

Good move IMO.

A return to the good old days in Cleveland.

The only question I might have is how this will affect the Women's quarterfinals. I would assume they will play Wednesday?

I like this format. While I've never been to the full deal Thursday to Saturday, this format is incentive for me to do so more than it was before. I still thought the top two getting byes to Friday was worthwhile.

This will benefit us as early as next year. I think we are going to be a top 4 team and get the bye but we also may be an early work in progress that loses some games early before meshing. We will be that team no one wants to play by season's end. We will have what I finally see as an "atypical" college team. An inside presence with Tony, a solid point guard in Jaaron and shooters galore to kick to in Kaminski, Ryan Taylor, Gollon and Block. Toss in two workhorse hustle guys in Treg and Laster and we are the blueprint for mid-majors. Now if Wadly and/or Doug Taylor/Dozier can give us ANYTHING I think we contend from the beginning.

I like your optimism. We'll need to see a lot of contributions from a couple freshman to be really good, but you have to like the excitement coach has about Simmons & Kaminski, and we know what to expect from Taylor & Tony.

The good thing is the level of competition for PT in a lot of spots that simply didn't exist last year. When I asked Saul at the Bluestone about red-shirting one of his frosh, he really seemed excited about that competition.

Careful, we do not want to explode any heads in the class of 71.

I was one of the few who liked the current set up, just wanted a slight tweak to just cut out the 11 & 12 seeds, so it was 1 & 2 triple bye, 3 & 4 double bye, 5 & 6 single bye, 7 & 8 home game, 9 & 10 away game, 11 & 12 out.

I just really like high emphasis on the regular season and thought this was a good way to strike a balance between the regular season mattering yet still having the winner take all ending. Now we are back to the regular season being quite meaningless.

The release said the MAC is doing more the emphasize athlete wellness. In the previous format, there was the potential for teams to play games up to four consecutive days, sometimes against fresher teams. I can see how this move may be in conjunction with athlete health.

Cough, cough, bullcrap, cough.

The format was a joke. It's absurd to think that anybody with gainful employment could or would ever travel when that travel may be happening on any of 3 days with the infernal byes. People quit coming.

They just have to hope people come back.

Excellent point Pete. When someone doesn't do something for a year or two, the risk is run that they may just say, "I don't really need to do that anymore." It often takes a compelling reason to get people to come back.

A Bobcat, Flash, Rocket & Zip Final Four is all that is needed to cure that ill.

The problem is that there just weren't enough games with teams that were good that year and had their fansbases engaged. I understand the desire to reward the best teams but having the first few days of the tournament not include any of the top teams makes the event a non-event.

Good news that the best 4 schools are going to Cleveland without preference to division. As to divisions or not in basketball since you play everyone in the opposite division plus 2 school twice during the conference season it doesn't make too much of a difference. No divisions in football would make much more of a difference since only 3 schools from the opposite division show up on the schedule every year.

I guess 2 years without an Ohio school winning was seen as a huge problem.

And you guys always say we're (Buffalo) ridiculous for wanting out of the MAC.

I don't have a problem with non-Ohio teams winning it. It certainly helps attendance if one of the local teams has a team making a run but the biggest problem has been that the good teams' fans don't even think of showing up until Friday. With the changes there should be better attendance on Thursday.

No, you misheard, we said you're ridiculous, period.

That is one of the silliest conspiracy theories I've heard in a long time.

The whole "MAC stacks the deck for Ohio teams" conspiracy is some serious tin foil hat stuff.

Agreed. Other than WMU and UB, all the other non-Ohio teams haven't been very good for awhile. I've always said it would really be a boost for the MAC for Ball State to get back to being a really solid team.

Agreed.

For any Buffalonian to assert that this is stacked is just not being real about the state of the program under Reg and the MAC. Balls being relevant is good for the MAC. NIU is so far gone there is little hope there. WMU/CMU and EMU all have the potential to be good but have not done what it takes in recruiting, coaching and team building to get there. Toledo is a sleeping Giant and BUGS just shot themselves in the foot. Clod....you are not being objective about the situation. Facts are facts and Non OHIO based schools have not been very good as of late....for that matter neither have other Ohio based schools for the most part.
