Means the NIT will either be scrapped or become the equivalent of the CIT or the WNIT, where the schools are on the hook for everything. The NCAA is too cheap to continue paying for an event that will be lacking the big boys, and after what the P6 did this season, they shouldn't be allowed to play post-season ball after pulling those shenanigans.

Prediction: FOX will realize this new tournament will suck and will probably fold within four years. The NIT this year has been 100x better this year than it has been in a long time by moving from Vegas to Hinkle. That's what FOX won't get. They think it needs to be a "destination" tournament like a horse-crap bowl game in a perceived-cool city, when in reality all we need is a good barn that has history and a city that will back it. The NIT proved that in spades this year (and will tell you from me selling it this year, inventory was pacing well prior to Indiana State getting into it and going deep).

Can FOX and ESPN not attempt and succeed at screwing up college athletics any further? The way these a-holes are going, I'm confident they'll kill the bowl system (which to be candid, good riddance because they are just paid TV time by ESPN), they will kill March Madness (ESPN will create their own post-season tourney to counter this), and have already killed any semblance of regional conferences. The next frontier I predict, is when they will allow schools to have "affiliation agreements" with smaller schools to mine their kids and develop methods to have farm systems.

At this point, the NCAA needs to do two things:
1. Only allow one free transfer (unless the kid graduates or head coach moves on via a litany of methods). You can try to tell yourself it is a rule already, but it is less enforced than jaywalking on Court Street at 2am (especially when in line at Big Mama's). After watching what the Alabama kid is doing (transferring to Iowa and now going back to Bama), that kid should be sitting out a year, especially when classes already started at both institutions when he made the moves for the semester.
2. Tell conferences we're fine with y'all forming "football or basketball conferences," but for the sake of everyone, please form regional conferences for the other sports. At this point, the expenses are getting too high for all schools and will become an unsustainable model. Want to talk about "mental health?" Tell me how it's good for mental health for a volleyball player to go from Seattle to Piscataway on a Tuesday night, only to turn around and go to Madison, or for a cross country runner to go from Tucson to Morgantown then onto Orlando.

For those wanting NIL addressed, good luck putting that genie back in a bottle. Boldly predicting that NIL goes back underground, especially when boosters wake up to the day of why would they publicly disclose how much they're paying a kid for sponsorship unless it's economically feasible to do so. No reason to pay these kids above board, especially with the way the IRS is going towards any and all transactions. Cash will be king again, and commodities will be the future of NIL again......

Sorry for the 2am rant, but this crap is getting old in college athletics. Ran by a bunch of bureaucrats who will continue to find ways to get fat off of "student-athletes" and coaches who think they're god's greatest gifts to the universe. Someday, someone explain to me how it takes a head coach, three assistant coaches, 2-3 GAs, and an army of student managers how to run a motion offense when all it takes is one professor to explain to a class of anywhere between 30-100 students of how to build an atomic bomb.

The NCAA can’t, but Congress can. Who knows if they ever will, but they’d been debating it now both last session and this session. A new NIL bill was introduced recently, but it appears DOA.

Every NIL bill has been dead on arrival, and frankly, Congress has more important things to deal with then NIL on a national level, becuase it really is a states issue, unless they want to invoke Interstate Commerce, which they do not want to tackle.
