Rumor has it that our former buddy, Jim Christian is interviewing for the open head coaching position at Canisius.

If true, would definitely be a case of looking for one last opportunity at the D1 level. It's a very difficult job in the MAAC and he'd be replacing another former MAC coach, Reggie Witherspoon.

JC is from NY. But not that NY.

At this rate, he'd be better off hanging on until Senderoff moves on.

But that would be a big get for them.

Jim Christian is one of two finalists for the Canisius job along with George Mason assistant Steve Curran.

My condolences to the Canisius basketball program and its entire fanbase.

Good ole Jimmy C keeps fooling them and stealing money along the way.

Was Saul not available?

For a school like Canisius, that's a home run hire for them.

Didn't JC sit on the kent bench for a couple of years to get enough years in Ohio for his pension? Perhaps he reached that threshold?

Maybe a double. There's no evidence he's adapted to the changes in the game the last 10-15 years.

DJ Cooper, Treg Setty, Jon Smith, Reggie Keely and Walt Offutt would all disagree.

We’re talking about a small program in the MAAC that has had minimal success the past few decades. Getting a proven head coach with ACC experiences and a bunch of mid-major success is a major get for them.

Just because Ohio is a mid-major doesn’t mean that other smaller schools are on their level. Canisius dreams of being where OU has been the past decade. They value that Christian coached at a Jesuit institution at Boston College and doubt they care what a few players from a Bobcats team 10 years ago think about him.

Saul is a good man and good coach. Jim C is neither.

This actually goes deeper than just Christian, Kent and Canisius.

Christian approached his old buddy, Rob Senderoff, for a favor a couple of years ago. Christian told Senderoff that he didn't want to be a head coach anymore; he simply wanted to earn his last two years in Ohio's PERS system so he could get his full retirement benefit.

Here's where it gets ugly. Senderoff sacrificed assistant coach (and former Ohio assistant) Aaron Fuss to open up the spot for Christian. Fuss was left with a rather bad taste in his mouth about the coaching profession.

Didn't know about the Fuss piece of it. I'd love to have him back in Athens.

Fuss is out of the coaching game. Working in real estate and raising his kids back in his hometown Pataskala area. I'd be very surprised if he got back in at this point.

Also not sure how true that is with Senderhoff removing Fuss for Christian. Fuss cited wanting stability, no traveling and raising his kids in his hometown. Sure people can sugarcoat reality but I believe he remains close with Senderhoff.

This is far from the story I've heard, which includes talks w/Foose.

1) Christian's move to Kent may well have included getting that Ohio pension years, but just as much getting his family back to Northeast Ohio, where his wife and kids have deep ties.

2)Foose move from Kent was also family related, as he could have stayed at Kent, or even return to Ohio, but is currently not coaching on the college level at all while living in Columbus.

Christian is a good coach, with deep connections (which is key to getting so many jobs). He will be solid at Canisius.

I interviewed Jim Christian today at his Canisius introductory press conference.

We spoke a little bit about his time at Ohio before getting started. He's excited about his new opportunity and eager to turn the Griffs into a winner. Also had some interesting thoughts on the changing landscape of college basketball.

Your take on Christian and "Foose" is uninformed.

If Christian's reason for moving to Kent was to get back to family roots in NE Ohio, explain the move to Canisius.

I was told point-blank by a KSU program insider that this was a favor to Christian so he could earn his final PERS years.

Aaron Fuss was hit with a double-whammy: The KSU prez demanded that someone take the fall for the pre-MAC title game video debacle, and Sendy was also committed to helping his good buddy Christian. The last I heard, he was working for his brother-in-law's real estate/house-flipping business.

A favor, yes. That came with getting his family back to NEO. Both things can be true. Also, Christian is obviously what I would call 'a lifer.' He'll always have his eye out for a head basketball job. Does not mean the first two scenarios are wrong or conflicting.

As for Fuss ... if there was to be a 'fall guy' (which I doubt, and never heard of) there were certainly better 'candidates' on the staff than him. His leaving was a pretty open secret for much of the season within the staff. Like Christian, he wanted to get his family closer to home. I also believe, if Boals or Senderoff wanted him back, they'd have no problem reaching out.

We all have our sources. Perhaps mine are wrong and yours are right. Just sharing what I know from past talks with both Christian, Fuss and others.

That's certainly the general consensus of this board, an opinion that I share based on the testimony of former players.
