I would kind of expect better than that but almost anywhere is better than the MAC right now

Interesting.

I'd probably call Groce and pray he picked up.

Mountain West is nice. SDSU is in the Sweet 16. They got 6 teams in. Utah State ran into Purdue, but they still had a nice win over TCU.

The MWC got 6 teams into tournament this year. I'd say it's a big step up from the MAC. Might be the only way he ever gets a bid.

The Mountain West is a huge step up from the MAC. No comparison on money or talent! The MWC is better than the A-10 also at this moment.

Baylor also nabbed Toledo QB Dequan Finn the MAC player of the year this past fall. Money talks!

I really wonder what would have happened with Groce had they pulled a tourney upset. Would he be in demand for a step-up job? He’s been successful, as expected, at Akron. Factor in the amount of players they lose to graduation this year and it would have been the perfect time to move up if the opportunity was there.

Would be a tremendous move for him. If he has anywhere near the success in the regular season out there as he would in the MAC, he'd make the Big Dance every year, regardless of the postseason tournament outcome. I don't see him as the type of guy who would bail quickly, either, which is probably something they're looking for, given their last coach was there a whole one season. The only thing their fans won't like is, they just won their first Big Dance game in 20 years. Someone who has struggled in the postseason like he has, probably isn't too exciting.

IDK about you all, but definitely think this could be a job Boals gets in the hunt for real fast. Considering the AD (Sabau) and Boals worked together at Ohio State, could definitely be someone that shows up on Utah State's radar.

Seems like a kid's wish list of coaching candidates, but seeing Boals's name on this list doesn't make me feel any better about who could be in play.

https://kslsports.com/513578/who-will-be-utah-states-next... /

Only reassuring part, is that we're not watching our kids parade into the portal just yet. If we looked more like Toledo's portal (and I know from inside sources that there is a little bit of a courtesy shove happening there with Coach K after this season), then my radar would be at a 10. As it is, sitting at about a 4 until I hear real smoke to fire.

It's like clockwork that Boals name is mentioned for a job opening. Probably always will be. That said, Todd Simon probably makes the most sense given his experience at Southern Utah and knowledge of that geographical area. Would be a shame for BG if it happened.

I thought the same.

And Boals will be brought up a lot, because he was such a key piece in recruiting at Ohio State and has been eating well off that for years. He has done well here. He's a players coach. And most importantly who else has his portal resume? *KNOCK ON A WHOLE FOREST* But when you truly only lose three guys in this era... one to UVA, one to the NBA, and one to Alabama... you're doing something right. Especially, when it's clearly not about the money. He's doing something right. He's someone you want to play for and it shows.

In fairness though who aside from Vander Plas & Sears would have had any luck in the portal? Maybe there are some but none really come to my mind.

No doubt the MWC is a great conference - the salaries at UTAH State not so good- 900 for Sprinkle there. And their fan base is complaining about their lack of enough NIL money. Just saying.

QFT and it can't be repeated enough. We're lucky to have him.

Speaking of which, about that contract....

It appears either Tod K or Todd Simon will be introduced at Utah State. The fact that there are two MAC Tod/ds is enough to break basketball media on X

YSU's Calhoun to Utah State. Good for him. He'll no longer have the worst job in his conference.

He’s one hell of a coach. Clearly a strong recruiter as well.

The worst job in the conference? I guess one win Detroit is better place than YSU? Also didn’t the worst job in the Horizon beat Ohio this season? I wouldn’t consider YSU as the worst job in that league. Calhoun just got a gig to a conference that got six teams in the big dance. Never in our lifetime will the MAC achieve half that many bids to the tourney unless the expand the tourney.

Has any MAC coach been canned or accepted a big time job? I don't think that there has been. It kind of feels like there is a good chance that might have the same set of 12 coaches in the conference next year. That has to be pretty unusual.

the fact the mac can,t seem to get more than one bid is a reason we should move to a different conference. conference USa, big east or aac are conferences we could do well in.

BOBBIES TO THE BIG EAST?

How do you think they match-up with UCONN?

Just move UConn to the MAC for all sports. Problem solved!
