Where I get upset is when teams in our region / conference / tier are getting these guys and we are not.

I've brought it up a dozen times, but YSU...

HOW?

- DJ Burns (Murray State transfer) had 24 points and 17 rebounds on Wednesday. Just broke their record for double-doubles in a season. He's 11th in the country in rebounding. Averaging 13/10 this season. He's 6'6".

Double Doubles:
Enrique Freeman: 22
Zach Edey: 19
DJ Burns: 19
Hunter Dickinson: 14
Armando Bacot: 13

- Ziggy Reid had 20 / 8 in that game. Averaging 15/5 this season. I wrote about him a dozen times last year. Most people in this thread wanted him. Did OU?

I promise you Sherrod Brown did not find some old steel money in Youngstown to get DJ Burns and Ziggy Reid. So how does this happen? Are we not prioritizing big men? They're both one year players, is that why? Why do we keep missing out on these players that should be in Athens? Did we not push for them because they're both 6'6"-6"7" ? They're coming off a nice year, so maybe that's a bit of it - but do we consider YSU a "rival" of ours now? We have to think about YSU poaching our recruits?

How on earth did we let that happen?
I know how you feel. Malik Dia is starting to show up as a second round NBA draft pick for next year in at least one well known mock draft site. And he has absolutely no character or academic issues. Maybe this is the portal season upcoming when Boals and them hit on all cylinders, learning from the past mistakes. Speaking of big guys leaving Vandy, Lee Dort obviously won't be back but the charges of him allegedly choking his lady friend have been dropped. People around NashVegas say he never stopped going to class, he would be immediately eligible? 6-10/250. Other offers out of h.s. included Texas, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor.

How bad do we want to win the MAC? Enough to take a chance on the next Dort?

Maybe they don't meet the "high character" objective Boals has established.
This is distinctly possible and if so I'll stand with Boals and applaud him. Life, and character matter more than basketball in the grand scheme.

That being said, he's also paid to win. He knows it. Finding high character guys who don't break the NIL bank and are top tier mid major talents is a tough task. I don't envy him. That's why he gets the big bucks.

Sweet Jesus I never even noticed he’s no longer on the bench.

Have we reached allowable question territory yet?

With IJ presumably gone, does that leave us with two open schollies going into portal season?

As of this morning, he’s still on the roster. Until the program or sports information office drops a release that states he’s no longer on the team, then the unanswered question surrounding the mystery of Bahamas Ezuma is still relevant.

All it takes is a one sentence statement from Boals to end it.

Have you thought about coming down and picketing the Convo until you get answers? Maybe block Richland Avenue or even hanging out at the Court House with a sandwich board may make people move on reporting this injustice.

That would actually be amazing, could also move over to college green with a megaphone.

The Richland graffiti wall would also be a prime opportunity and would get a lot of eyeballs.

IIRC, the two big portal sites (247 and On3) only list where a guys ends up if it's at a D-1. If a guys ends up juco, D-2, D-3, or NAIA... I think they leave it looking like he was simply passed over. Maybe that will change this time or not. Isn't it doubtful he sticks in D-1 hoops? Aren't the odds higher that he ends up a school that most people have never heard of, ala Ellis Dozier?

A novel (if not delusional) take:
Boals is acting like a decent human and taking care of one of his own. It is not my issue, it is between a player and his coach. Maybe down the road this pays dividends and players chose to stay in a program where they are treated well.

Go Bobcats. ☮
