POINTS PER GAME: 2.35

REBOUNDS PER GAME: 1.75

SHOT BLOCKS PER GAME: 0.47

Only plays ~10 minutes per game. Is the 10th man and Cornish becomes 11th in the rotation.

By the last quarter of the season, neither is actually in the rotation but see minutes when folks ahead of them have foul trouble.

I don't think he'll play at all this year tbh. If it is academics, we should find out soon with fall semester wrapping up.

He's being coddled because of the Hargrave connection, but like we've said a dozen times before he's a junior. He's not a freshman whos homesick or hasn't figured out how to balance academics. He's in his 3rd year. He didn't play last year. He barely played his first year. They have academic advisors and tutors strictly for sports. Assistants are monitoring your grades. They have study tables. They have each other. They are catered to in every conceivable way. Combine that with a basketball perspective... we have no inside presence, he was givin every single opportunity to be a STARTER. He should be STARTING. But he can't even get on the court because he's a knucklehead.

I've said it in every IJ thread that pops up every few weeks... if not NOW, WHEN?

He will never again play on a team that starts a 6'4" guard at PF, unless he's at the Raleigh-area LA Fitness. Which will probably be the only place he is playing basketball after this year.

This is not Duke/Vandy/Stanford. A kid should be able to pass enough classes to stay eligible. You might think.

Now... IF ...he does regain eligibility...

PPG: 1.7
Rebounds per: 2.1
Blocks per: 0.06

That's my entry and I'm sticking to it.

With each late game garbage-time rebound he grabs, people will conflate him with Jaren Jackson Jr. or Rudy Gobert. There will be lots of "SEE! SEE! - did you see how he grabbed that rebound over the 6-2 walk-on with 42 seconds left and the benches empty!! Wow, that kid can play some ball alright!!"

I can't argue with any of this. If he comes back January 1st, he has 19 games minimum to prove if he'll be wearing the green and white in 2024-2025.

This is a rough crowd. If memory serves, Armon Bassett was involved in a number of legal dust-ups but because he was a good player, his sins were soft pedaled. This guy has hung in and is still only an unknown. Doesn’t yet truly qualify to be labeled a knucklehead.

We don't know he's a knucklehead. There's no benefit in rushing to judgment.

I believe what MDWST is saying is that he’s not a knucklehead in an Armon way. Nobody is saying IJ isn’t a good dude. But I think he’s just simply stating he’s a knucklehead with his academics and there is just no excuse to be academically ineligible with all the resources and advantages college athletes get in this department. Especially coming off a red-shirt year. He has flat out hurt the team by not even giving us a chance at having another big body to play 5-10 minutes per game. There comes a point where you run out of patience with somebody and if he does come back this season…he needs to show he can play or he’s going to have to find another program in 2024-2025.

What if his mother mistook his father for a prowler, shot him to death, and he was traumatized as a result?

Were you channeling Jimmy McGill or Saul Goodman on that one?

Was once again in street clothes but seemed to be involved within the huddle - I wish someone at WOUB or Messenger could have asked tonight after Boals stated Miles is returning. I’m crossing my fingers and praying we can get another big at our disposal because we desperately need it.

I’m going to say it again - over the last three years I’ve encountered him on campus - he’s always been a very nice and funny guy who comes off as a bit immature - me and a classmate encountered him right after he hurt his ankle before the 22-23 year and he was very crushed about it - had a brief handshake and conversation at the Block Party and seemed to be in good spirits but shy. Now, I don’t know what is going on in his life but I hope he can rebound from it and return for the second half. If he still isn’t back - we have a major problem on our hands and I hate to say it should be shopping for someone else.

I can’t even begin to wonder how AB got dragged into this, but at the end of the day he didn’t hurt the team, he literally won NCAA TOURNAMENT GAMES.

Fear Leon is correct.

I keep copy + pasting my words from other threads at this point, but he had every opportunity to start this season and squandered it. He was forced to red shirt last season - after playing as a freshman - when we needed him then also. Has anyone asked why he redshirted as a sophomore? Ask around. A couple little birdies told me it’s for a similar reason.

He’s a third year player who has played no significant minutes and has spent 85% of his time at OU in street clothes.

And now he’s sitting for an unknown reason when he should be starting. Again - every opportunity and squandered it. If he wasn’t motivated this season when will he ever? He had a full year to get in shape and get ready, to get his head in the game. Squandered. Two years down the drain. They let him redshirt as a sophomore. He did not grow up.

Definition of a knucklehead.

Give me back my scholarship. Good luck at LA Fitness.

*Your* scholarship. If you can't express yourself without being nasty and disrespectful, you should be at the Akron board.

+1

If he sat out last year not because of injury, but because of academics, then what are we truly doing here with this situation? This is ridiculous and unacceptable. At this point, how can anyone truly think IJ is going to help this team ever on the court? We basically have a guy on scholarship for three years wearing street clothes and going down water slides at the Baha Mar. Make it make sense?

It doesn't make sense. Only half the guys in the portal landed anywhere legit enough to count last time according to On3 and less than 2% withdrew and went back to their original school. They really needed to use that schollie on a guy who could at least get things done in the classroom and then maybe could contribute on the floor.

If true...it's time for IJ to start looking into the Ohio=USC-Aiken pipeline or UC-Clermont. I think many on this board, including me, gave up on this dude a long time ago. His greatest moment as a Bobcat was going down the waterslide at the Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas. Glad he could make that special trip and contribute.

Time to move on for all parties involved. An epic swing and miss for this coaching staff. Three years of absolutely nothing when we needed a player of his size to give us 7-10 quality minutes in the paint, especially last season and this season.

I agree with this completely. Dude seems like a nice guy who likes his teammates and shows emotion during games but we've not played guys with more talen such as Rifen Miguel or Ethan Jacobs who could have contributed I believe. I just don't get our big man situation under Boals. He has Dwight all those years and couldn't find a backup to learn from him? We don't need Dwight and we don't need Myles Foster with this team. We need Sylvester Ogbonda. Vest was one of my favorite pickups in the Boals portal era. Dude was a solid 8 and 7 every night and played defense.

I doubt he'll play tonight since grades aren't due to be posted, but if he's not active for Austin Peay, I think it's very likely we've seen the last of IJ.

You nailed it with Ogbonda. We didn't need Wilt Chamberlain the last two years. We just needed a serviceable big to rest DW3 in 2022-2023 and then play a bit larger role in 2023-2024 with DW3 gone. This recruiting whiff stings on Boals record.
