Talk about em. What are you tuning into? What do you see.

WMU misses a box out and NDSU comes flying through the lane for a tying put back. Going to OT.

Oakland giving Bucknuts all they can handle.

Interested in seeing how Miami gets on without Safford and Mirambeaux. Lots of new faces. Lots of Freshmen getting run. The well-traveled Darweshi Hunter looks like their alpha.

James Madison with a 4 point lead at MSU at the half.

Don't see Ali Ali in the lineup for Akron.

Watched a good chunk of NDSU/WMU last night. WMU could be sneaky with B. Artis White plus Seth Hubbard and Crump (NIU transfer off the bench).

Malone gave Kent all they could handle in the 1st half.

FS1 in my market was bouncing around game to game in the Big East with studio coverage.

Last night openers were not unlike the last 40-plus years of following MAC basketball. Only difference is that I can now flip through ESPN+ and catch most of the games being played live.

What doesn't change, seemingly, is MAC teams finding ways to lose non-conference games v. teams from larger conferences as well as teams from conferences on the same level as the MAC. WMU unable to hold on late at home v. N. Dakota St. (block out and get some rebounds), Miami losing a 2nd half lead in a loss at Evansville, Buffalo's 2nd half comeback losing steam in a home loss to F. Dickinson.

Doesn't look like UT has lost the offensive firepower that produces regular season titles but little success in March. Most impressive win was Akron at S. Dakota St. with Dawson scoring 19 off the bench.

What I hate about college hoops in 2020s is the complete overhaul of teams' rosters from year to year. There's something to be said of being able to make an investment in players at a school over 4/5 years instead of having to start over every season. The new transfer rules might be best for the players but it is detrimental to the game.

Watched McNeese State own VCU from start to finish. It wouldn’t shock me to see McNeese rack up 30 wins this season and run the table in the Southland.

James Madison with a HUGE upset.

What they've been able to do with their programs recently is amazing.

I don't even know what city they're in. It's not DC, Virginia. We're talking rural VA. 20 miles from WV. Their university enrollment is bigger than OU, but the endowment is 7x less. The median income for a household in the city was $37,850. Median for Athens was $47,061.

They've rebuilt the football stadium and newly built their basketball arena, rebuilding the Olympic sports facilities.

How they doing all this?

Good for them.

Harrisonburg is twice the size of Athens. They are right on I 81 which is a major north and south interstate. They're in the Shenandoah Valley which is a major tourist attraction. For years, they competed at the highest level in 1AA. And, they don't live in the shadow of a t0$u. Also the figures you quote are way off compared to the US Census information.

Wouldn't be a bad thread to pin...this one always gets in-season interest through the end of the season.

Let down by Wikipedia again.

However, my main point is what I was most curious... OU's endowment is 7x the size of JMU despite the booming entertainment scene in the Shenandoah Valley.

They may not have to compete with OSU, but Virginia Tech, Maryland, VCU, UVA, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, West Virginia, Howard, George Washington are all within two-three hours.

Dominating 1AA is what gets you shiny new stuff? Most convincing argument I've heard for moving down.

Appy State also dominated 1AA. Both schools built their programs up as opposed to legacy affiliation like the MAC has. Year in and year out, both of those schools would have challenged for the MAC title the last 10 to 15 years.

Quick realization I had watching WMU/NDSU the other night. Fan/student apathy is a challenge at every MAC school, but most schools, even EMU and NIU, I can remember times where they had some semblance of an organized, engaged student section. I can't remember the last time I've noticed any kind of engaged student presence at a Western Michigan basketball game.

WMU "The Zoo" section has been pretty irrelavent since their last NCAA tourney appearance. NIU mainly cares about football. EMU is almost dead. Same goes for CMU with the exception of their Majerle / TP Throw night last year.

Hunter - 21 pts but fouled out.

Surprisingly out rebounded Evansville 33-31.

Most of the freshman don't look great. Hunter and Mabrey were the only two players in double digits and Evansville's bench outscored Miami's by a good amount.

KENT STATE JUST MESSED UP A FIVE POINT LEAD WITH LESS THAN FOUR SECONDS LEFT.

Going to OT against JMU. You need to go get the ESPN+ archive and watch the last 10 seconds of regulation.

More than a few Kent fans left thinking kent had it won with a late 5 pt lead before it went to OT.

More Kent fans left thinking JMU had it won with a late 5 pt lead before it went to second OT.

Santiago, who led MAC in 3 pt shooting 3 years ago at 45% is 0 for 5 tonight (1 for 10 overall). I predict he'll hit one to win it.

Would have been nice to have this Carey kid for JMU. We put a lot of our recruiting eggs in his basket. Looks like a Dwight clone in the making.

Good prediction. Instead, Sendy took him out at end of 2nd OT after committing his 6th turnover.

I'm sure bobcatsquared (aka bs) will agree with this, but it's my fault. After seeing this thread I got the game up on my computer, and from that point on KSU looked like a team of BA scrubs featuring the aforementioned bs and his running mate SBH. In fact, those two could probably have at least hit their foul shots.
