Ibi Watson is headed to Michigan:

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-mich.../

How many locals who played AMS and (some) AHS basketball ended up at a high major program?

I look forward to the Bobcats getting a chance to beat on the Blue again sometime in the next five years.

Well excuse me - But I believe the vast majority of BA regulars will take that statement as "disingenuous" at best - and essentially "Total/Pure Crap". Unfortunately, we have come to expect such "crap", from BA's SE Ohio/Ohio/Athens Communities Remotest (in many ways more than just geographic and/or "physical distance") Self Reputed "Enthusiast"....... WTF???

We already know your "back" has been "turned" for years. "Pay to Play" to be Ohio's Biggest Contrarian Alum sure seems to be the motive (Ohio alum - so can't do that anywhere else - Eh?)

OK - You Win. Give us and SE Ohio a Friggin break.....take your negativity elsewhere - plenty of other boards to be a pesky non/positive troll on out there......why such enthusiasm to dis Ohio, Athens, SE Ohio at every opportunity?????

Chase Fieler of FGCU "Dunk City" fame was a Parkersburg South grad, but he originally was a Federal Hocking district kid. Fed Hock is barely a stone's throw from Athens.

As for shaming kids like Watson and Burrow, let it go. These are kids that have the opportunity to play sports at an extremely high level at prestigious universities. Shame on anyone who puts them down or speaks poorly of them for taking the opportunity to follow a dream. It's extremely selfish to put them down for not choosing to come play for your team. I firmly believe, had those trolls who put them down been in the same situation, you'd do the same thing. I think you would be foolish NOT to.

Ibi has the opportunity to play at a high level. No doubt there is a strong relationship with local ties to the UM staff that made that decision much easier.

We see the same situation in Indiana all the time. Kids head out for lots of reasons. Deadspin did several maps on where kids come from, where they go, how big a capture rate each state has in keeping their kids at home. Good stuff for stats geeks. http://deadspin.com/infographics-where-do-pro-basketball-...

Good for Ibi. Lots of guys had their eyes and hands in this process. UM will give him a good chance to see what he is made of.

Chillax, dude. Why the apoplexy?

If you don't share my opinion, it's okay. No need for ballistic.

Now, let's regard LeBron. He got the imperative to come home, to play for the home team. Even if he doesn't win a championship, he's legendary iconic (and forgiven). He's ours for the ages.

Some day a homegrown will play at OHIO. It won't hurt his sports prospects and he'll be a revered legend.

It's the right thing to do.

OK - "DO THE RIGHT THING". Don't dis a good kid for HIS decision that you have no clue about any of what was involved in any of his decision making process......

Didn't 'dis' him. Merely expressed my dissatisfaction with his choice.

Others may view the situation differently.

Of course, I have about zero info on his decision making process. That's true for most of us on many of the topics here. Doesn't disqualify us from having opinions, perspectives.

Complete silliness. The kid goes where he wants. Comparing his situation to LeBron James is even crazier.

I'm not sure I agree, Monroe. Using your logic my oldest daughter never would have attended Ohio University as it was not "local" to her. Local would have been Akron or some other college in NE Ohio. In fact, I have to imagine 99% of Ohio's students aren't from Athens or the surrounding vicinity, therefore they didn't choose to go to a local college to them either.
