Here's a list of common opponents for Cooper and MD their senior year ('12-'13)-

Portland
PG A- 31min, 18pts(7-13), 6ast, 5reb, 3stl, 5TO.
PG B- 25min, 23pts(7-12), 3ast, 1reb, 2stl, 3TO.

Memphis
PG A- 32min, 19pts(6-13), 4ast, 3reb, 2stl, 5TO.
PG B- 40min, 10pts(3-13), 7ast, 3reb, 1st, 6TO.

I assume those that place a premium on 4 inches and 14 pounds can quickly and easily identify which PG is the one that can play at the next level and which one cannot.
Sorry, but we're talking NBA here. Those stats you cite are meaningless in this regard. They just are.

Watching Dellavedova in the finals I couldn't help but think "surely there are point guards outside the NBA better than this guy." DJ was the first that came to mind. If Dellavedova can play in the NBA, so can DJ.

I agree. Obviously, the best players in college often do not turn into the best players in the NBA. It's a completely different game.

I think there is little difference, maybe none, between an NBA guy at the end of a team's bench and the best players in Europe. It's just a matter of finding a team that desires and values a player's exact skillset.

I'm still skeptical an NBA team is going to sign Cooper. He only averaged 12 minutes per game with Panathinaikos in seven games. I hope I'm wrong, but this rumor has been published only once as far as I can tell, so I'm not really sold on its credibility.

good point, I forgot that the majority of NBA players aren't humans that once played in college but are mutants from the planet Hoopsitron.

Not saying that DJ can't play in the NBA but it's a completely different world and the skillsets required are different. There are a lot of sub-6' guards in college that are really, really good. Not so much in the NBA.

I would love DJ in the nba. The only team I see taking him on his Houston. If they take Tyus Jones DJ won't be suiting up in Houston. I think he will make good money overseas and an excellent way for an agent to get people talking. However I think he needs to be on an nba roster in camp. But as far as the dellavedova comments, Delly has the size, and heart. I love DJ but Delly didn't shoot 30 foot jumpers with 25 left in the shot clock multiple times his senior year. I love coop he's small and needs an all assist mentality. He shouldn't worry about scoring but attacking and dishing and improving defense. If Houston doesn't take Tyus, my best to Coop. I think he can help them out a lot as an assist machine.

Tyus Jones is 6'1", 185lbs. DJ Cooper is 6'0, 176lbs.

Exactly they are close in stature. I've been hearing Houston for DJ but also hearing if Jones is there they want him. There wouldn't be room for two little guards also if they keep Patrick Beverly. I am just making a statement saying I don't see them getting both.

Hah, that would have to be quite the offer.

Interestingly, the Wizards drafted Iowa's Aaron White in the 2nd round and apparently he's already saying that he wants to play overseas instead of the NBA.

I like Coop's overall game but his size has got to be a concern. As we stood in the parking lot with Tommy's old AAU teamies talking I was looking and commented to Jeff how small he looked as I watched him play. Not sure how Deej would do night in and night out against those bodies https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10205543787451847...

This happens all the time. In fact, many teams will only select a guy in the second round if he's expressed a willingness to play overseas. It allows them to control his rights without having to commit to a contract/cap space.

It's my understanding that the Wizards wanted him to play this year for them though. The guys that spurn the NBA are typically young European players who need the seasoning. I can't recall too many 22 year old Americans turning the NBA down.

That is only for non-American players. You can't draft an American and stash him oversees.

I happen to know Aaron and asked him about this. He said he is going to get the chance to make the team for this season and if he doesn't, then he will go play in Europe this year and return to the Wizards for the '16-'17 season.

As an aside, no way DJ is 6 feet. I've stood next to him & he is shorter than me. I would guess he's 5'9".

Another aside...as I recall not many of the 2nd rounders ever make an NBA team nowadays. Correct me if I dreaming again?

Yes, you can. Teams can maintain the draft rights for three years. Jon Diebler was drafted by Portland, played in Greece, and then his rights were traded to Houston. He never ended up making it to the NBA, though, and is a free agent. An example of a guy who did eventually play in the NBA is Kyle Singler. He was picked by the Pistons in the second round, spent two years in Europe and then played for Detroit.

It is true that foreign players sometimes are picked in the second round because they still are under contract with a European team and actually won't be available to play in the NBA for a year or two.

Quite a few of them never play in the NBA and a huge chunk of those who do spend only get a year or two before teams move on. Second-round picks do not automatically get guaranteed contracts as first rounders do.

I'd agree with that. A lot of NCAA teams bump up their players an inch or two.

I'd agree that he is 5-9 or 5-10 but I don't think it makes a big difference between that and 6-0 or 6-1. Any guy less than that is going to be giving up size against most opponents.

I agree. DJ is probably about 5-9. I'm 5-10 1/2 and he seemed shorter than I when I talked with him once and was standing next to him. Larry Hunter did the opposite of pumping up height numbers, at least on occasion. He listed a few guys a few inches shorter than they actually were. I don't now remember the players involved or the exact time frame, but it was back when Glenn Coble was the sports information director (or whatever title that position had at that time). Glenn told me about how he was ordered by Hunter to list certain players as shorter than they actually were.

I'm 5-10 or 5-11. Towards the start of DJ's career at OHIO, I think I had an inch or two on him. I do feel like he grew over his 4 years at OHIO. Standing next to him his Senior year he seemed to be an inch taller than me. I don't think I lost height!

I agree the listed heights are garbage. I'm over 6 feet in normal boots! That must be what NBA guards wear to get measured.
