Meh event. Wouldn't exactly call it "madness". Random thoughts: Mike won the dunk contest but Jaaron had the best dunk with a one handed catch off a lob from the side of the backboard. Both of them are very springy. Doug Taylor is listed at 220 lbs, but that is a misprint; he is every bit as thick as Tony. Treg looks like he gained a little bit of weight. No one, man or woman, stood out in the three point shooting contest, not even Kenny. Kiyanna didn't compete for some reason. Gavin Block probably should probably never try dunking in a game.
They're smart to treat the scrimmage like the NBA All-Star game, but there is a lot of room for improvement to make this event more fun. They could do more to involve fans (half-court shot for a prize, fan/women's team/men's team shooting starz competition, etc.) or show players' personalities (freshman "talent" show).
There seems to be a new walk-on. Jaylin McDonald out of St. Ignatius. 6'6''ish and a decent athlete.
The Jaylin McDonald appearance surprised me. I usually assume the folks here with ears to the ground know about any additions but never saw him mentioned here.
Mike won the dunk contest on a dunk which did not involve touching the rim...IMO not really a dunk. But he and Simmons were both pretty impressive athletically.
Simmons looks to have extremely good court vision, even if it was a defenseless scrimmage. He looked like a much better distributor than we have been used to for the last two years.
Wadley just looks good, physically. Hopefully this can be a breakout year for him. Someone with his size and wingspan that runs the floor as well as he looked capable of running it Saturday could be a big factor.
Gollon, Dartis, and Block all look like pretty good shooters. Block has an inch or two on Gollon, shouldn't have a lot of trouble getting shots off over defenders.
I'd put money on Taylor outweighing Tony C. That's a big dude.
