Definitely not in favor of moving Saturday hoops to Fridays.

I don't think the (potential) gain that the FB programs receive for November weeknight games is there for hoops. Not to mention it'll hurt the out of towners when you're chosen for a 6:30 Friday or a 9pm game. Or at least it would for me.

I hope they don't pick us. Then I wouldn't be upset to watch other MAC hoops on Friday nights before our Saturday games :)

I don't like this Friday night stuff AT ALL! OHIO/Athens probably has more to lose from this than any other MAC school due to number of long distance travelers to games, to Athens for games.

I agree with both assessments. I would say this - I'd be fine with a Friday night home game if it were scheduled from the start. Then I could easily plan to leave work at noon, and make a longish weekend of it in Athens. I'm hoping that these Wildcards don't end up on Friday nights.

Hadn't caught onto that about the Fridays. Even worse to do that for CBSSN. Ick.

I also didn't realize ASN games weren't making it to Athens -- I see WWHO has been replaced by a WV version of the CW. That's a real drag.

With ESPN3 well outside of Ohio, I'm spoiled with all the ASN and TWCS stuff, but I can see this being extremely frustrating.
I find the blackout of anything to be extremely frustrating. I wonder what your thoughts are on that given the industry you work in? I wish WatchESPN and other comparable services would just be available on a stand alone pay basis.

Speaking from my personal point of view but with knowledge of the industry, I find blackouts extremely annoying but they make sense from a business perspective. Time Warner is making their money (to pay ESPN for the sublicense, to produce the game, and hopefully turn a profit) by selling advertising in the broadcast. Because of that, they don't want you watching via the WatchESPN stream if you live in the area their network is available, which makes plenty of sense.

Now, these blackouts need to be targeted correctly to work well - it makes no sense to block somebody who cannot receive the ASN telecast, for example, from streaming it - they have no ability to generate revenue for ASN, so there is no benefit (I don't know what the maps look like being in CT, since they aren't applicable to me).

What's interesting to me is the Time Warner channel. To me, it would be very interesting to know if it is offered to the satellite providers and other cable companies in the area at all, or at an unreasonable price. Obviously they want you to subscribe to the channel, and that's fair, but if it is only made available to Time Warner Cable and nowhere else, I feel like you could be venturing into the anti-trust type of bundling (far from a legal expert here). It also has the negative of making it impossible to watch for people in rural areas who physically cannot get cable, even if they wanted to. Sadly, MAC programming is unlikely to generate the kind of uproar needed to get Time Warner to sell the channel to other distributors. Maybe the Crew will be big enough to get that ball rolling.

My views and thoughts, not my employer's, etc.

Also, Toast, the wildcard games will definitely be MAC games - they designated those slots for a MAC game, just not a specific one.
