I've been thinking of a hoops movie marathon night in the next couple weeks.

Let's talk favorite Basketball movies - my person favorite is Coach Carter. I like the teaching moments, and the motivation/inspiration provided in this one.

Of course there's the standard, Hoosiers, and I also really enjoy Glory Road.

What other suggestions for favorites do fellow BA posters have?

Hoop Dreams. Good doc! Laid the groundwork for sports documentaries IMO.

If you're doing a marathon, make sure to include:

Hoosiers
Coach Carter
Love and Basketball
White Men Can't Jump
The Air Up There

and a dark horse... Basketball Diaries, though it's really more of a drug movie.

Personally, I never cared for Glory Road or He Got Game.

Never been able to find a copy of it, but there was a 1970s movie titled "Drive, She Said" that was filmed almost exclusively on our campus and in Convo. Believe it was produced and/or directed by Jack Nicholson.

Surprised I've never head of this. I remember when "Mischief" was filmed in Nelsonville but had never heard of a movie being filmed in Athens. Couldn't find anything on Google other than a new movie by that name and one filmed in 1997.

Edit: Found it. It's called "Drive, He Said". Will have to see if I can find it somewhere.

Drive, He Said. Released in 1971. Imdb lists Eugene, Oregon as the filming location.

While I don't consider Blue Chips a good movie, it's purely college hoops, so it might have to be included. I've never seen "That Championship Season". I'll have to check that out.

Most players would throw " Love and Basketball" on that list.

It is probably not a top 5 movie, but if you ever get a chance you should watch More Than a Game. It is about LeBron James and his trek through high school. His coach was an Ohio grad. I was invited to the first showing in the Akron Civic Theater. We had red carpet and all. My son who is a journalism grad from Ohio was involved in the original project that his best friend did as a project for his degree from Marymount in California. It was more of a documentry when it started and he did all of the editing. I know not everyone likes LeBron, but if you are from Akron he is the King. It is more of a movie about him growing up without much parenting and how his basketball coaches may have saved his life from the street of Akron.

It would be cool to see that, wasn't filmed here though.
