It's been a long time since I've seen a true freshman look this good this early in the season. This guy is really, really good. I'm very pumped about this whole team. They have good chemistry and play as team. This game was not coach's clinic but OHIO got it going in crunch time. Go OHIO!

Keeping expectations realistic at this point. Many on this board said same thing about Ryan Taylor after Game 1 last year. We all know how that turned out.

The comparison between Taylor and Dartis does not hold much weight in my mind. Dartis wanted to come to Ohio out of a local high school. We were Taylor's only viable option for a D1 program. Jordan Dartis will bleed green for four years.

I agree with Jordan wanting to be here. I'm just saying it's one game and a small sample size. Many went crazy after Taylor's first game last year. Hoping Jordan continues fine play and he's consistent. We don't need 17 points every game...just consistency.

Jordan was a winner while he was at Newark and he'll be a winner here. I think we got a slight steal with him. I'm glad we've got a guy who can stroke from outside when Kenny and some others aren't hitting. And his buckets were all timely.

The one I want to talk about is Gavin Block. He had an excellent floor game last night and his play in the second half is what sparked the rally. The charge he took and the three ball he hit from the left wing completely changed the game.

It's actually two games and I think it underscores your point. I thought Dartis looked comfortable in game 1 but he wasn't a real factor. Freshman, by nature, are inconsistent. We are going to have real ups and downs with all four freshman that will see the court. For the record, I think this is a great class. And as far as Ryan Taylor goes I'm not sure his comparison is completely valid. Taylor looked really good until the mono hit. By the time he was back healthy the team was in full dysfunctional mode. If he were a freshman this year things might be completely different. Ryan Taylor is a good basketball player and I think would have been a huge asset on this team. That being said he's not here and that's okay. We've got more than worthy replacements.

+1 Go Cats105. You are spot on with your comments on JD, and also Gavin. I agree that GB really sparked our comeback last night with his hustle and intensity on defense, and some big plays at the offensive end. I know that it is very early in their first season to be drawing conclusions, but I see this class setting the tone early for how hard they must play to expect to be successful. We also got some energy from Gollon and Taylor, along with Harley and Wadley. Effort and intensity can be contagious on a team with good chemistry.
Go Cats!

Agree entirely on Block. In fact, all of the freshmen that got in the game looked good and very polished for 1st year guys. I thought Dartis had the best performance but there was a lot of glory to spread around with the newcomers.

I thought Dartis benefited last night from being able to play alongside Simmons. In the opener he had to play mostly at point guard with Simmons on the bench with foul trouble.

I think all of the freshmen are currently capable of contributing right now. In the case of Dozier, if I were betting, it's simply a numbers game for him at the 3/4 spots. This is a nice recruiting class for establishing a base, and setting a tone for future seasons of Saul Ball.
