Random Stories from last night's normal hoop session, which was not normal.
I walk in and the first person I see is Derrick Tarver, former Akron star, and I have flashbacks to him scoring 40+ on us (think that was the 4 OT game and he fouled out in one of the early OT's).
I end up with a pretty good 5 and have a big game against a group of normal participants. Derrick Tarver then calls me Detlef Schrempf the rest of the night (I take that as a compliment!) and in the 3 games we play against each other the rest of the night I get the unenviable task of trying to guard him and he hugs me pretty much the entire time on the other end. We have a couple friendly conversations between games and I let him know I went to OU and he was excited to talk about beating the Bobcats and the OT game. Seems like a decent guy. Although he and his boys argued the entire time between games after we beat them twice, which brought me some joy.
The other story.....Lebron's Mom walks in about half way into the evening with his 2 sons and sort of turns them over to Derrick and his friends. I don't recognize these guys but I believe they were St V people before Lebron's time. So last couple games of the night they talk everyone into letting Lebron Jr play (think he's 10, maybe 11, and no one without their own membership is allowed to play normally so it's good to be the King's son). No one really wants to guard him for fear of hurting him and starting a mutiny so he pretty much gets to dribble around and jack up 3's which he was not shy about. At one point he banked one in while I was supposed to be "guarding" him after a switch up top. So I may be on Youtube by now getting a 3 banked in my face by Lebron Jr. which is a new claim to fame. Kid has game though, no doubt about it.
A weird but fun night.

Next time, give SBH a call (he lives in that part of the state). I'm sure he wouldn't mind bodying up on LeBron junior and swatting one or two shots back into his face.

I love it. Remember everything about it, treasure it, share the experience. When you've played with players, no matter the age, it always stays with you.. I'm sure many BobcatAttackers could share their shoulder rubs with players. And you got the Ws. Nice.
