Just played what hopefully turns out to be the worst game of his career and we still gave an athletic ACC team everything it can handle. Be encouraged...be very encouraged. Best thing that happened in this tournament was playing two of the best teams in the field.

I trust our PG will figure out the handles as season goes on.

Jaaron played some tough games against tough opponents while playing the most minutes of anybody. He is still a top talent and I'm looking forward to seeing him against regular MAC competition like Antino Jackson, Chris Fowler, Jarryn Skeete and Noah Robotham. Compared to who we've played that will seem easy. And Jordy showed he's ready to take over when needed. Love this backcourt that will be together for 3 whole years.

40 assists in 5 games is really good. 31 turnovers in 5 games is... an area for improvement.

Jaaron is already good and is going to be great. We played against a physical team that targeted stopping Simmons as their key. As this soph gets more experience he will be high major quality. The mistakes will be reduced and the shooting will get better. He averaged almost 10 assists for the tournament.

Have to disagree w 1998 abt the MAC PGS being "easy" compared to what we just faced. They will give Jaaron all he can handle.

So you're mad at a 4-3 assist to turnover margin? Even with the turnovers being extreme he's still at what an average superstar point guard would be at. And a lot of his turnovers will be points in the paint for Tony or Treg that were just mishandled or out-athlete against Tulsa or FSU.

I'm not mad at anybody. I'm also not making excuses. I'm simply pointing out an area that needs improvement.

In what league is a 4:3 ratio a good thing?

He'll be fine. Just needs to shake off some rust.

I think some of what you say is true. 4:3 is decent, but it doesn't matter what the ratio is, more than 6 turnovers per game is bad. But you certainly are right in that much of that was because of the teams Ohio played. I don't think the turnovers will be a big problem going forward.

He will be good, he does need to cut down the turnovers. Turnovers lose games. Period

I thought that game looked like 40 minutes of two minutes end of game/game over trash time - both ends of the court.

Simmons had too many TO's but the team altogether had a lot. Too many lackadaisical passes, picking up dribbles too soon then trapped, waiting for the pass instead of go getting it, protecting the ball after in hand, getting in the air with nowhere to go or dish, hesitant reactions to loose balls....

FSU with more energy throughout the game. We should have worked the O multiple times instead of hurry up a let fly, or just fly with no flight plan.....

Overall, Jaaron, has been even better than I had hoped. Great attitude with regard to setting his teammates up first, then efficiently getting his points secondarily. Very happy he is a Bobcat!

You know the mantra of real estate agents: Location, location, location...
Just hope Saul is working on turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.

No Buddha ball please! Gotta value those possessions!

GO BOBCATS!

While turnovers are certainly a concern, I'm sure Jaaron and the coaches are well aware that this is an issue as well. I also give him some leeway as he sat out a season and is still probably readjusting to the speed of the game. Hopefully he gets that number down as we move through the season. I trust he will.

That said, I hope we can bring in a good PG with our remaining scholarship. I do think Block and Dartis will improve at the point as the season progresses as well.

I'll even take the turnovers with the production. The turnovers are going to get better as the players get used to each other. But I'll take controlled aggressive play 100 times out of 100 over too careful play. We are averaging 3 more turnovers a game this year compared with last year. Bad you say? I say nope. In large part because of Jaaron's aggressive play we are also averaging 16 more points a game than we did last year. We are shooting at a 48% clip compared with 43% last year and 40% from three versus 34% last year. In addition, in part because of Jaaron's aggressiveness we are getting to the line 30 times a game compared to 16 last year. Jaaron has already surpassed Bean's total of free throws for the entire season. Our shooting numbers are bright green across the board on Pomeroy.

The turnovers will improve but I hope not at the cost of aggressiveness. When I'm watching the Cats this year I don't see out of control play much. I also think that as Saul figures out who is going to be his backup and gets comfortable with him (I'm betting Dartis) we will see Jaaron get more rest and that will help as well.

Reality Check Please

WE ONLY HAVE 1 POINT GUARD PERIOD.

IMHO Saul made a tactical error in not bringing in another true point guard. To make matters worst, add injury to insult, this situation will remain unchanged next year as well, based on the announcement of another big for next year as the sole 1 opening.

There's one more scholarship available for next year - the departed Ryan Taylor's scholarship. So in theory, we could still add a PG for next year.

We do have one more scholarship still, but I don't think we need a backup PG. We didn't have a backup PG in 2010 or 2011 and we did just fine. Dartis and Gollon can handle spot duty just fine.

With the last scholarship, I would just go with best available unless it's another shooting guard (unless that shooting guard is a young transfer). We could make a case that we need another PG, post player, or small forward.

I'd argue that right now, the most glaring need is probably a 2nd PG. Of course that's only 5 games in and we haven't seen enough of Dartis or Gollon at the 1 to really evaluate them. I still truly believe you can never have enough capable PGs, but someone who was really explosive at the 3 would be nice to have too.

Well thanks for the correction on 1 more scholly available for next year.
I would still opt for a JUCO PG. Then add 1 frosh PG the following year and 2 after that. We nned to always have 2 PG on the roster, period.

We'll have to wait and see on that. I don't think we will see many 4-5 star guys in the MAC, and no teams with the depth of FSU.

Not sure whY you would prefer a JUCO PG. Jaaron will be a Jr next year. A juco would likely come in as a jr. Bringing in a true frosh would even out the classes which would be better long term. Bring in a true frosh and let him learn under jaaron and some of the other guys.

Put me down for Dartis and Simmons the next 3 years. Most of my boys from Z-ville said Dartis was the real deal. Guy I work with coached Purcell Marian and told me we have a player in Jaaron. Both know more about hoops than I do.

How do we do better than these 2 young men?

They will figure out the turnover struggle.

This team will surprise.
