After looking over the stat sheet for these 2 games my only real concern, this early in the season, is our 3 pt. shooting %, 28%. That needs to improve, and Kenny K. is where the problem exists.

Removing Kenny's 1-12 puts us at 34% which isn't great but not terrible. Kenny will find his stroke.

Like you said ...2 game sample

The strokes of our shooters are pure, not concerned about this at all unless KK's shoulder injury is a lingering issue. Visually it doesn't appear to be.

I am more excited about KK inevitably seeing a few of those go through the net.
He will be a weapon that will be very hard to deal with given the number of shooters we do have especially the more confident they become.

My only real concern from the shooting aspect is Simmons making the defense honor his shooting.
While I want him to be pass first he has to be a threat. I don't like his shooting motion much. It is harder to drive and dish when the defenders slack off of you not honoring a scoring threat. We saw them doing this quite a bit last night which helped contribute to the 9 turnovers IMO. He did hit a three ( I think the only one he tried) so maybe its a non issue.

I didn't like Reggie Millers form either....he did alright.

A secondary concern is Tony falling in love with his 3 point shooting, love the weapon in the right match ups but it needs to be balanced with work inside.
Love Tony but it takes less effort to launch a 3 vs banging inside. It also takes less energy to reach and foul vs move your feet and defend. I fear a correlation to the path of least resistance in both areas.

It is funny looking but as long as the shooting motion is consistent it's fine. You said it yourself, defenses are going to play off him so he won't need a perfect or even quick shot motion to get it off. So far he's shown that he isn't going to force up quick threes. He's only taken outside jumpers when the defense was way off of him. I don't expect him to keep up an effective FG% of 71% but while he has an ugly motion (same with Treg) so far so good.

Tony has only taken 7 3s in two games. That doesn't seem excessive to me, especially with the big lineup we are going with. I can only think of one that I thought was forced.

Kenny's stroke looks fine from the free throw line. I was pleading for an easy bucket or a free throw for him last night when he was clearly struggling. Seeing a shot fall, even if it was a layup or a free throw, may have been all he needed to get it going. Kenny will be fine, I'm not worried about him.

I'm amazed how quickly some have given up on Kenny Kaminski. How many times have we seen a transfer struggle early as he regains his footing and speed for the game only to come roaring to life? Too many times to count...

I blame myself on being surprised. I have no business being surprised by the constant negativity of some. I really should save my surprise for when the BA masses actually have some patience and maintain a positive outlook.

to put it another way- when have we ever not seen a transfer struggle early on after sitting out a full year?

Yep, Armon took a while to get going. But ended up hot as fire.

Fanbases are like windsocks. We are going to win 20+ games after game 1. We are going to have problems winning 10 games after game 2.

Kenny will be fine shooting. You can just see it in his motion. He can shoot. Physically he's a tremendous player.

I'll be honest. My focus isn't on this year. It's on possibly a year from now but more likely the year after. After watching two games IMO Saul hit a home run with this class. We had a North Dakota State fan come on here and tell us that Saul didn't handle knuckleheads very well when he was there. He's just not a my-way-or-the-highway kind of guy. But he said that he did a really good job of not recruiting knuckleheads. When all is said and done I truly believe that this recruiting class will be viewed with reverence amongst our fans. At the end of last year I was a little worried about Saul. Inmates running the asylum, recruits with low ratings and no one of significance competing against us for those recruits.

After two games and seeing the four freshmen that have played I am no longer worried. This team may not have as much individual talent at last year's team but it is infinitely much easier to watch. Last year was my least favorite season of Ohio basketball since I began watching in 1978.

Not worried one bit about Kenny.
Not focused on if this team can win 20 games.
This team will lose at least one game by 20 points...maybe more.
Bu unlike last year, when an inexplicable loss happens, this team won't quit and bicker.
Stay healthy and nobody wants to play this team in March regardless if the Bobcats have 20 wins or not.

The only concern I have related to 3pt shooting is the potential for shooting too many three's.

Kenny will be fine. His stroke looks great he just doesn't have the legs yet. I'm not necessarily worried about too many threes, but more the wrong people taking those threes.

I've always been of the opinion that if they come from working inside-out, the number of them doesn't matter. If they come from "settling" for outside shots, and a team takes 25-30 in a game, that's not good. That happened a fair bit here last year. Like everything, it's too early to judge with the current group.

Agreed. The 3s from the inside out are usually wide open. That's not what we were shooting early in the game against Tennessee State. They did a good job of stopping penetration by Simmons early and we ended up doing a lot of perimeter passing prior to shooting a contested three.

Update, since game 2 Kenny is 14-27 (52%) from behind the arc.

Along with your update Van, I've noted that right now, we have six guys shooting 38% or better on the season, with Kaminski is the 38.5% shooter. While I expect that percentage to diminish a little through the year, if that many guys are shooting around 40% or higher, I can't argue with 20-30 3's a game.

Bottom line is that Ohio looks like a very good offensive team so far, and 3pt shooting is a big part of that.

I still contend that if we had had Jaaron on the floor last year we would have been a good 3pt shooting team as well. He penetrates with a purpose and it really opens things up for everybody else.

In theory, isn't that what last year's #22 was supposed to be good at?

In theory but it sure didn't work out that way. I always found it was odd that he would always end up with the ball on the far right side of the court last year. Meaning that he would always be going to his left while he was penetrating. Takes away some of the options for a right handed shot.
