Listening to Setty tonight I feel that this team is ready to approach the MAC with a very positive attitude! Northern Illinois has had a respectful preseason so it will be interesting to see how we respond on the road to gain our first MAC victory.

What's been really great over the last five games is that someone different has stepped up every night. It was either Simmons or Dartis in five of the first six games. But in this five-game winning streak it was Campbell (23 vs CSU), Kaminski (31 vs ODU), Simmons (17 vs JSU), Campbell again (26 vs APB) and Setty (20 last night). The opposition can't focus on just one or two players.

+1

I think that this is an excellent point. This team really seems to be a team and they don't seem to care who gets the points as long as the team is playing well. From what I've seen so far I suspect that this will be a hallmark of Saul Ball. Selfless play seems to be one of the principles that he coaches.

Is it too early or premature to say this game could be a bellwether for the MAC season? If Ohio can win this game against a good NIU squad at NIU, I would think that could portend good things for the MAC season.

I don't think any game this year is a bellwether. This is a really young team with a lot of talent. On any given day, they can be the team we saw in the first half of the Tulsa game and they can be the team we saw in the second half of the Tulsa game. We could beat Akron in the JAR one night and lose by 20 at home to Miami another night. What pleases me thus far is that the team seems to be progressing steadily. They're still a work in progress and they still can be very inconsistent, but they look better overall most nights, and they're clearly responding to coaching.

I'm not sold on NIU at all. Ohio will bring NIU back to reality and wins this game easily.

Certainly these 1st 2 conference games are big as they are on the road.
Win these two and we will help ourselves with the confidence factor which is so important when playing on the road.

We may have a stinker or two coming but it wouldn't surprise me if we don't have any in conference. We'll lose some. But I think we'll compete reasonably well in every game.

OCF and I definitely agree about basketball. Definitely.
