Just a chuckle for those who were there.

And from the NCAA. I would love to hear a definitive answer on which one we use. My guess it's estimates.

Attendance figures for official box scores and/or NCAA reports can be calculated by turnstile count,tickets sold or estimates.

There were at least that many there. I sat down were the 110 usually is and there were almost 5000 little kids running around where I was sitting, or at least it seemed that many to me....lol.

As an out of town fan, I really have to ask why in the heck last night's game, or Monday's game, could have been played on Saturday or Sunday?

I've said it here a bunch of time....it isn't tickets sold, it isn't butts in seats. It is an inflated number based on what the real attendance is that is made up on game day. Every school in the country does it, so don't think we are unique.

No agenda and not trying to mislead anyone. I only posted that because I found the NCAA rule book that said you could submit estimates combined with the fact that to my knowledge there has never been an official announcement of how we report or how many season seats we actually sell. Not a big fan of secrecy - thank goodness we have newspapers like the Boston Globe. Hint - going to see Spotlight tonight

It would seem that you have an agenda to disparage the attendence numbers without even knowing how they're calculated, and to find out what ticket sale numbers are. I wonder all the time why there is so much mystery about ticket sale numbers, but I'm not worried that somehow what Schaus is doing is not legal or unethical. He has his reasons and I guess I trust him to tell us enough about ticket sales, if not the actual numbers.

Isn't the estimate method used for games played at neutral sites in tournaments? You will see attendance estimates of maybe 100 or 200 for games like that. Also, I think estimates are more likely used for Div II or Div III games (not referring to II and III teams that have good attendance) where few attend the games and no one really cares that much. People kind of wander in for games like that and the athletic dept turns in an estimate. I may be wrong but I doubt this is used for Ohio mens basketball. Too sophisticated of a ticket system to allow for that. I'm guessing we submit paid attendance figures, and most of the time I can see how the figures make sense considering family pack no shows. The Jackson State figure, however, left me scatching my head re how we could have that many no shows for one game.






Btw Kent State coach Rob Senderoff recently ripped the Kent area and fan base for low attendance at recent games.

I do not know what the obsession is with the AD and his counting skills or methods....I gave up on guessing and just considered the source and other esoteric rants on meaningless subjects (like the cost of attending one of the best values in college sports this side of the 5 buck HS game in Indy) as I am prone to those also...

The numbers are consistent from week to week, month to month and year to year. Methodology must be consistent. That seems to work for me. For guys who have been going for decades you would think it would be enough. Nice to have constants in a life of changing standards

But I'll have to admit it's hard to understand the submitted figure for the Jackson State game. Maybe they found a legal way to distribute large blocks of tix for these Dec games.
5183 must be the new minimum for Convo attendance with no walk up or student demand. Are we going to see a bunch of 10,000+ crowds when it comes time for MAC play and a record attendance average this year?

Arkansas Pine Bluff (5254). Jackson State (5183). Ohio Dominican (5223). Ohio is averaging 5691 through its Nov/Dec home games. A school can make a small some to cover expenses to play on the road or it can make some revenue by playing at home. The economic impact of each home game to the community is high enough to play patsies at home.

I'd say each of these has to be worth 2-3 million to local businesses, very important to the local economy to be the strongest in the Region. No one else has the visitor numbers that we do

Not really, what other community in Southern or Southeast Ohio have more visitors than Athens has, that come through and spend cash? These home games and these encouragingly high attendance numbers in a traditionally slow season are great to the local businesses.
