Around the MAC, we've got two solid games to tip off a fresh slate of conference play.

Akron @ Buffalo 7pm ESPN3 AKR -2.5
Kent State @ Western Michigan 7pm ESPN3 KENT -1.5

Both should be fun. Western could be down this year, especially with the Tava injury, but they've still got talented players - I could see them improving as the year goes on.

should be a good night.

Blackmon Out for IU rest of the season http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/iu-expects-james-b...

Kentucky sees Ben Simmons tonite. Should be good. Simmons is really good. Watched him a couple of game so far, most recent vs Vandy...nice player.

I'm flipping btw the Akron/UB, and Kent/WMU. All four teams look pretty solid to me.

It's safe to say after last night's marathon, I won't be up for the second half of the 9pm games!

Huge road wins for Akron and Kent State tonight.

From the scores it looks like two close and very competitive games.

LSU up 10 @ half and Simmons has 2 points. KU has 10 TO and is under 50% from the line (6 for 14), under 35% from the field, and is getting out rebounded.

I watched both the MAC games. Good ones. Didn't know who to root for re Ohio's chances.

Looks like this league race will be very open, as most people have been saying.

The Zippies took 37 threes! And made 12.

UK concentration on stopping Simmons may do them in....

IU wins ugly...Wisky a mere shell of last year's team

Akron had a veritable plethora of open threes. Buffalo shaded their defense to help on Akron's bigs and dared Akron to beat them with threes. Almost worked.

Watching UK leads me to a question of "How much one and done can you do and continue to be excellent?" It just seems to me that have a little balance and continuity might make sense. I'm probably reading too much into this game, and UK's loss at UCLA. The frosh just don't look that great. Poythress looked bad for what I expected him to be. Ulis is still outstanding to watch.

I agree. Buffalo looked better than they've been given credit for. Same for Kent & WMU. Jimmy Hall had a nice game for Kent.

Akron looked good, but 37 three's? It didn't seem like that many. Live by it, die by it...

Buffalo is strong and aggressive but I hate watching them on offense. But that is the type of attacking that we don't handle very well on defense. At least for me it's really ugly to watch.

So I have rules interpretation question for you refs (amateur or otherwise) out there. In OT of the Kent-WMU game last night there was a pass by WMU out towards halfcourt that Kent stole and got a bucket. The issue I had was that the Kent player plowed into the WMU player and knocked him way. The WMU player was standing still waiting for the pass. The contact occurred just as the ball was getting there and was shoulder-to-shoulder. I know in the NFL this would be a legal play because he was making a play on the ball but it looked like a foul to me.

Ref here

I probably would have instinctively called foul, and no one would be mad at me for it. On slow-mo replay, it looked as though both players were leaping towards the ball, so I understand the no-call. You could even make the case for a double foul. Remember, fouls are judgment calls.
