Down 5 at half, Quiera Lampkins took over the game, scoring 25! 2nd half points and a career high 33 as the Cats (9-3, 1-0) take down Western Michigan (8-5, 0-1) 73-63 at the Convo.

Q was unstoppable, driving left and right from all sides of the court, shooting 12 for 22 from the field and 8 for 11 from the line. And her defense was just as solid, with 6 steals , 4 boards, and a block while matching up against their toughest offensive threats. Athens freshman Dominique Doseck had 3, 3-point daggers to keep Ohio in the game early.

Nice come back win. Go OHIO!

Stub, Quiera seems to have upped her game very, very significantly this year. Kiyanna has been a bit quiet this year vs. the total force that she's been previously.

What's your take on the ladies status and prognosis for the MAC this year?

Black has been the dominate force on this team, she had one poor game, not sure where you draw some of your perceptions.

Slow down. All I said is that she's 'been a bit quiet.' She's been such a force in prior years that it's hard to imagine that she's not still an excellent player.

This is not at all a knock. It's merely a recognition that it seems that for the past couple of years, Kiyanna has dominated every game. But this year, she hasn't been the headline player every game. The emergence of Quiera is hardly a knock on Kiyanna. It's a good thing to have (at least) two standouts.

It's a false statement, she's been on fire. One of the greatest starts to a season in women's history. Your entire post is off base. She is the leading scorer, 3pt shooter.

Ohio is picked to win the conference and tourney title after their incredible MAC run last year, and with all but one returning player this year. But it won’t be easy as the power ratings for MAC schools are much stronger than usual:

Ball State power rating of 77 (2 games)
EMU 78 (away)
Buffalo 94 (2 games)

Toledo and CMU are also strong (low hundreds) along with WMU who just played us close at the Convo.

So far this year the Cats, with a current power rating of 65 have played the following teams with ratings below 100, and hold a record of 3-3:

Illinois (80) away loss 62-53
Fla GC (56) home win 69-57
Indiana (95) neutral win 63-56
Vandy (66) away loss 62-59
Duquesne (36) away loss 64-47
Mid Tenn. St. (97) home win 72-49

Mariah Byard graduated. Red Shirt Kat Yelle graduated and transferred to a graduate school program, but the entire team with the exception of these two is back this year.

I've seen all of the women's home games, and it does look like Kiyanna has been struggling with her shot for the last two games. Being the strong player that she is, she will bounce back and continue her outstanding play. Q's performance compliments KB's, as she picks up the slack when KB is off.

Black is also playing a lot more point this year than she has in the past, with that comes a different role.

Black had 16, Lampkins 15, Baldwin 14 and Jenkins 13 as Ohio blew out what is supposed to be one of its biggest challengers, Ball State, 73-48. It was a 10-point game going into the fourth quarter. The Bobcats forced 26 turnovers.
