good reason to keep Russ paid well and hold on to him. Would hate for him to decide to make a lateral move to go "home"
Personally, I can't agree with this enough. OUr broadcasts are head and shoulders above not just most of the MAC, but also other, more notable schools. My example is that I'm a big UC Bearcats fan. The combo of Russ & Rob is better than the UC duo in my book. I'm not slighting Dan Hoard's great work either.
Is there a strategy or idea surrounding our offense? I might not have the most trained eye, but I've never seen something so disjointed. What exactly are we trying to accomplish out there?
I am glad you said it, because I am still trying to get the gist of the Saul system. I asked borna the same question in a PM last year when I was seeing that our scheme wasn't looking like the Wisky O scheme, and I thought I was missing something. Borna begged my patience until Saul was able to get his own guys in, but it is still not really looking cohesive to me, and so I have come to accept that my perception was wrong, and Saul's system isn't really Bo's, although he is from the Bo Tree.
Beyond that, I am just coming more and more to the realization that I am just not a fan of the game any longer, which bums me out. I was really engaged through JG and felt I got "it" and enjoyed watching, win or lose. Since then, I find myself not making catching our hoops games much of a priority. It is not a wins and losses thing, it's just the game.
I'm sticking it out and I hope my engagement changes, but I'm not sure what it will take to get me re-engaged.
I can appreciate how JG and his team's hit home for you more. Their style of play was really, really fun to watch for me. They also had 4 years of DJ Cooper, who has to be considered among the 10 best to ever don Bobcat colors. And they had two of the three best 3pt shooters in school history.
For that reason alone, I agree with being patient. I see 3 young guys on this team that look like they'll develop into fantastic players that really excite me: Simmons, Dartis, Taylor. And I'm leaving out a bunch of other guys.
As I watch this specific year's team though, I've been wanting to ask the opinion of those who are more basketball smart than me: Why, with the length that this team has, and the obvious issues a couple guys have being foul prone, don't they ever play some version of a 2-3 zone? It just seems logical to me from my point of view. I know it's not Saul's thing, but it seems like it would work occasionally.
In terms of personnel, I only hope that with the next awarded scholarship, they find an additional player who can get into the lane, and to the rim in the way that Dartis and Simmons can. I think that type of combo guard/PG is the only missing link in terms of personnel.
