This is why mid majors should play in a lot of tournaments in mid to late December. Better competition in most and better chance of beating a name team. They ain't gonna come to Athens anymore and few show up for these 4-5 home games in mid to late December so why play them there?

I'm for scheduling up at least 4 games a year and play them all on the road. It's a great experience for our players and our fans get more interested. You get beat most of the time, but sometimes you win. If you do it consistently good things may happen.

Agreed. That is exactly what former OU assistant James Jones does at Yale. This year they played SMU (lost by 2), Duke (down 2 at the half), Illinois (lost by 4) and USC (lost by 12) all on the road. This is how you get better.

Never understood why, back in the days of Quarters, the team didn't just go on the road for 5 weeks - barnstorm around the country. Play anyone, anywhere. Students were out. No classes. Just get away.

I think 2-3 of these kinds of games every year are a good idea - I just think being semi-selective about them is key. I'm not in favor of playing Duke, Kansas, L'Ville, Kentucky, etc., most of the time. I agree that playing these games is good for the fans to see the team playing more household names as well. I feel pretty confident we'll see more games against the big conference teams going forward. In fairness to Saul, and the rest of those making the schedule, the Paradise Jam games were against good teams like we're mentioning. The problem is that they weren't nationally televised as many of us expected. (something that the Paradise Jam and CBSSN need to rectify)

CC, I like that idea! Too bad we didn't do that back in the day. We played OSU in 1979 to open the season. They were ranked number 1 in some polls. We made it a game in the first half only to get blown out by 28. That was a more meaningful game for many reasons. We measured ourselves against a better team and got to experience a big time atmosphere. You don't get that playing North-South Missouri State at Lake of the Ozarks.
