I sat in front of the Ozone with a friend in the black seats for the first time ever. For the entire second half, I kept muttering "these guys need new material" or "these guys need to step up their game", referring to the student section. Nothing, and I meant NOTHING they say or chant is gonna get inside the opponent's head if last night is indicative of anything. One guy kept talking about Akron's baseball team (or lack of) as if anyone there from Akron cares about the status of the baseball team.

I remember just a few years ago, there was actually creativity displayed in the pre-game preparation for each MAC opponent, finding personal embarrassing moments via social media. Jim Christian's Kent State teams always seemed to provide plenty of fodder for the students to make fun of. Now, all we hear is "you suck", or "you still suck", which provides nothing. If that's all ya got, switch it up and really invest the energy in cheering on OUr team instead of bashing the other team with the highly useless "you suck".

Damn, I hating sounding all old man, but I really do remember past years when the creativity and craftiness of O-Zoner's made me proud as an Alum, and it wasn't all that long ago.

You are not an old man - you just have higher standards than what we are seeing. A friend of mine and former OU football captain who was sitting with me last night, commented after one "cheer" that if he was Saul he would have pulled a Bobby Knight and grabbed the microphone from Lou and admonished the ozone that "we are better than that" after one of their typical lame profane cheers.

I know I'm not an old man - I'm still in my 30's - but I just recall 7-8 years ago when there was a little more thought and creativity put into chants and cheers. I bragged up the section back in those days. "You still suck" said repeatedly does nothing but make those chanting it look like less intelligent people. It's as dumb as the chants from some at Crew matches chanting similar, with more profane words sprinkled in at the opposing goalkeeper. It's unoriginal and weak. I'm not really bothered by profanity as much as I'm bothered that there's not a lot of thought put into the opponent, or some positive cheers for OUr team. I know nothing about what they do now, but I can speak to conversations I've had with people we all know on this board as past "cheer" leaders in terms of the homework some used to do on the opposing teams, and the Bobcat Bulletin they'd put together.

The turnout and the energy is still better than pretty much every student section in the conference. I just know things could be better.
