I did not see this game, but I have seen enough Ohio games under Boals to say this. Our defensive strategy sucks. We continue to have guys on the weak side with a foot in the lane. When balls are reversed or there is a dribble drive and we double/triple the lane there are always wide open shooters at the arc.As I’ve said, constantly, in this day and age, kids can hit threes if they are wide open. Our strategy is built for the 1970s not 2020s.

if that's true then why are we starting to play like that awful 97-98 team? this team has always had trouble defending against the 3 point shot. it is clear that boals needs to address this issue ASAP. he also needs to get busy recruiting some guys with size and strength. given our current size we,ll always have trouble with rebounding. no wonder memphis ripped us a new one. i hate to think what would happen to us if we actually made it to the ncaa tourney and found ourselves against a team like kansas or alabama.

Isn’t it better to be in it, than not in it….no matter the opponent?

This is literally my favorite thing on BobcatAttack. B2000's relentless hatred of that damn 97-98 team.

Rumor has it he put a 5 spot on that team making the dance after a night at Cats Den with Chet Feldman. Then Jim Peterson stole his girlfriend.

Hey, that 97-98 team did have one thing I am currently jealous of (but could not have anticipated it back then): James Jones as an assistant. Dude has done a really solid job at Yale. I believe he was there a couple of years. Also, the nepo brothers Nick Terry and Dustin Ford.

No, if we can't compete with the top 5 teams in the country, why are we even trying

If we had simply hired Nate Oats away from Alabama, Sears would still be here.

I am tempted to leave this unanswered and let you wonder about me for the rest of eternity, but for the sake of my future posts I have decided to answer to distance myself from the opinions of people that measure our program based on our possible competitiveness vs the top 5 teams in the country. Yes I am joking.

AJC has been terribly inconsistent since becoming a regular in Boals' lineup. Meaning there's a game in the near future where he'll be on fire from 3 and end up with 25 points.
A perceptive insight from Memphis game and it took only 2 games in the future to bear out. AJC finishes with 34 points (not 25) while hitting 6 of 14 threes. This after hitting 1 of 9 v. MTSU and 0 of 6 v. Memphis. Time for the senior and pre-season all-MAC selection to be more consistent.

That won't hurt our rankings. Not even a little.
