Asheville got absolutely worked by Alabama in their opener, but this is still a pretty solid team that Ohio will get a good test from. Went to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23 and lost in their conference championship game last season. Coach Mike Morrell is a Shaka Smart disciple; was an assistant under him at both VCU and Texas. Had a couple of rough seasons to begin his tenure, but he's had winning records the past three years including that 2022-23 season where they went 27-8. Team wasn't hit too hard by the transfer portal by today's standards (they lost four), but they did lose a star player to graduation. Like Ohio they're probably just still figuring out who they are.

I dont know much about them other than they won 22 games last season, so theyre no slouch. We should take care of business at home. Haven't seen the early line yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us favored by 10 or so.

Asheville only lost its top scorer from a year ago, so it's an experienced team. This will be a solid test at home.

This won't be a walk-over, but if we're as good as we think we can be it needs to be a W.

Not only a W but we need to see some major improvements from game one, and some other guys getting some run.

Looking forward to getting back to the Convo, smelling the popcorn, listening to the band and hoping for a dub. Hopefully a nice turnout, as this will be another good test. I sure would like to see more AJB more down the stretch of the second half.

More than anything I'm looking to see if the Cats' ball movement will improve. Pav can take his man off the dribble, but (granted in a 1-game sample) he seemed to be more of a score-first guy. With how many other known quantities we return, I think how well/how fast he meshes as a facilitator is going to be critical.

Yeah, one game in.. I would like to see some more post presence this game. JMU was a tough out . Pulling Clayton to the perimeter can work...( if there is movement) Our guards have to continue to make the cuts to the basket for layups. We'll see . The frontcourt is deep. The perimeter game can follow. Aiden can help pull bigs away from the basket as well. Interesting

That wasn’t beautiful…but they hung on for the ‘W’…It’s clear that this team’s best games are yet to come. It’s not how you start it’s how you finish. Especially in the MAC.

And never saw the floor the last 7 minutes against UNC Asheville. What is going on? Odd number of minutes for a pre-season All-MAC selection.

Must be on a minutes restriction like in the NBA when a guy comes back from an injury is all I can figure.

Maybe that is what is happening with the radio station too. I can't get it via streaming or regular old radio.

Four fouls…. Gotta be rusty…. Other guys are clearly better right now…. James and Sheldon gonna take a lot of his minutes early. Whole season left to get him going.

Gonna take some time to jell. Boals is experimenting rotations.

Positives

Pav was better tonight feeding the ball. 5 assists. Also hits FTs which is huge.
Searls as I mentioned previously…#TheUpgrade. Excellent basketball common sense and moves better than I anticipated.
The freshman are athletes with loads of potential.

Negatives

Offense was a mess for a big stretch of 2nd half. That also coincided with some rough perimeter D.
We struggle to get timely rebounds.
We still struggle to finish at rim to get hoop and foul.
Would like to see AJB find his rhythm. But hard to do so with the limited minutes he’s getting through two games.
But it’s W. Take it. Move on.
