IDK if this is an indictment of our fans or this board. Both events were reportedly "very full" but we have no one here who attended either of them and can share details?

Sorry,

I was there. Boals talked about how they had one more scholly remaining. Said he wants to get a player that makes him look better at coaching. Stopped by and thanked each person that was there individually. Also mentioned that he wants a CBA agreement where these players have one free transfer and then would have to sit out. Also mentioned that they are not targeting players that have transferred more than once due to eligibility concerns.

Does this mean Alex Evans has a scholly?

If my count is right then it must mean the opposite.

-Left team-
Miles Brown
Gabe Wiznitzer
Jaylin Hunter
IJ Ezuma
Ike Cornish

Plus Quinn Corna who was a walkon. But we didn't use a scholarship last year so there should have been six to use.

-New players-
Jackson Paveletzke
Victor Searles
Ayden Evans
Jessie Burris
Elijah Elliot

Plus Chase Boals and Alex Evans who we think are walk-ons. That leaves one open.

FYI ... Starting to hear NCAA taking a much harder look at academic eligibility as a way to slow transfers, and is the reason several good players (Coit/NIU???) have yet to land at new schools. Hearing schools that take such risks will be held accountable.

So we really care about academics for college athletes anymore?

Curious, how do you have a Collective Bargaining Agreement when there isn't a union to make said agreement with? Who would be in charge of collectively bargaining for this?

Will the one free transfer then have to sit out apply to coaches as well?

Coach Boals has gone around the room and thanked every person for coming at all of them I've ever been to. Very nice gesture.

Hopefully not (though I put nothing passed the NCAA to screw up). Coaches are employees. Players aren't (though they are now essentially paid mercenaries). Simple as that.

I was there. A lot of problems caused by storms etc. Coach Boals, Coach Greenlees and the women's golf coach were there. Unfortunately, no football coaches.Food was good.

Based on Coach Boals' remarks, I think the 6-11 recruit referenced earlier was Ayden Evans. He said they are still evaluating what to do with the last scholarship.

I really hope we can find use for the last schollie. Guessing our NIL budget is close to tapped out and/or size is still costing a premium. Especially at the D1 level.

I refuse to wait a full workday. SBH, what are the details from last night's caravan stop in Lancaster?

In that case, did you dispatch your son to the caravan with a list of questions for OUr AD and coaches? Or maybe your wife?

I'm not saying that players should be employees, but it's not simple that they aren't going to become employees in the near future. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/ncaa-set...

Employee definition by IRS
Under common-law rules, anyone who performs services for you is your employee if you can control what will be done and how it will be done. This is so even when you give the employee freedom of action. What matters is that you have the right to control the details of how the services are performed. If you have an employer-employee relationship, it makes no difference how it is labeled. The substance of the relationship, not the label, governs the worker’s status. It doesn’t matter whether the individual is employed full time or part time.

They can't be defined as employees by the IRS if you don't pay them. No exchange of goods for services.

Too bad NCAA decided to pay them. Bad decision. I have no doubt they'll be considered employees by lawyers soon. And then the house of cards fully crumbles and college sports ceases to exist as we know it.

Good times.

Too bad NCAA decided to pay them. Bad decision. [/QUOTE]I mean, sure -- in as much as settling a massive anti-trust suit is a "decision." The courts have been making clear for fifteen years now that the NCAA's business model was illegal and violated anti-trust policy; the NCAA didn't do much about it but spend more on lawyers.

Was there another option?

I'd put this at 50/50, though it sort of depends how you define "soon." The path out of this involves NCAA-specific legislation, and I think we'll get it within the next 12 months.

It'll either involve the athletes being employees, but with carve outs for things like minimum wage, benefits, etc. and a comp structure that's entirely determined by a CBA around revenue share (a la the NBA, etc), or a non-employee approach that creates a separate class altogether, specifically for the NCAA. My guess is that as long as enough of the money's flowing to the right people, the second option's more likely.

I just fail to see how anybody's interests are served by letting a cultural institution that creates billions of dollars in revenue annually crumble.

If they're paid employees, with benefits and collective bargaining - they're pros. They aren't amateur college students who happen to play athletics.

Hence, collegiate athletics as we know it is done.

Doesn't mean games won't be played with school names and colors (which now mean nothing other than a means to continue revenue streams) on the jerseys.
