Looking at the Mac Standings what are our chances of getting a bye in the tourney and head straight to Cleveland ?

About 90%. Ohio is 4th right now and that's big with the better traveling schools in Akron, Kent, Buffalo and Ohio all among that Top 4. In some years a 3rd or 4th seed doesn't have a big edge in the quarterfinals against a 5th or 6th seed but this years its an advantage in both play and crowd support. That said, Ohio is on track for a #2 seed. Kent State has to play Akron twice. They are only favored in 3 of their remaining 7 games. A #2 or #3 makes for about a 60% shot at a MAC final.

here's the bottle neck behind Akron who is clearly in 1st at this point-

7-4 Kent St
7-5 Ohio
7-5 Buffalo
6-5 Toledo
6-5 Ball St
6-5 CMU

Ohio can claim possession of the #2 seed today if the following things happen-

- Kent St loses at EMU
- Ball St wins at CMU

If Kent St, Ohio, Buffalo, and Ball St are all tied at 7-5 the tie breaker becomes the record of each team vs the others. Currently here's what that would be-

4-1 Ohio
2-1 Buffalo
2-2 Kent St
0-4 Ball St

If CMU beats Ball St, however, it shakes out like this-

2-1 CMU
2-1 Buffalo
2-2 Ohio
1-3 Kent St

win or lose Toledo won't pass Ohio in any tie breaker scenario involving these other teams.

So root for EMU and Ball St today.

Interesting but we still have 1/3 of the season to go and Miami isn't the cupcake they were just 10 games ago.

There's not a team in this league on a given night who isn't cable of winning a game home or away. Next 6 games should be fun although 3 are after the students leave.

Here's a question: Why wouldn't the MAC as a whole make the week of the MAC Tournament the week they select for Spring Break? Not only does it help the student athletes by not having class, but it might help students have a chance to go to Cleveland if they provided an affordable package for travel.

I have to say it would be extra fun this year if Ohio makes a run since the Ohio women will likely be there as well. It would be sweet to see both make it so the women's team would get a nice turnout! How fun are they to watch. Being able to watch so many of their game has be awesome!

I am just not seeing it. They would need to lose three games to give anyone a shot.

Here is their remaining schedule with their chance to win each game:

@NIU - 63%
BUF - 84%
@Kent - 64%
@Miami - 80%
BGSU - 90%
Ohio - 81%
Kent - 87%

Would be fantastic to grab 2 or 3 seed and avoid Akron until Finals. However, plenty of hoops before March...Eastern Michigan will be difficult.

Starting next year, OU spring break is the week of the MAC tournament. The university and Athens City Schools are aligning their breaks. As for other schools, spring breaks are at a variety of times.

How much (if any) does point differential make? Is there a benefit to run up the score of a MAC game?

So the MAC West champion could finish 5th in conference? I like what the MAC is doing, but seems odd that the West Champion wouldn't at least get one of the top 4 seeds.

The reward in the new system is for the #2 an #3 seeds. Both can avoid playing the #1 seed until the MAC Final. A 4th seed sticks you up against the 5th seed in the quarters and the 1st seed in the semis. A 6th or 7th seed is a good dark horse than can tear up the bracket avoiding the #1.

p.s. and now Akron goes down, losing at NIU. Food for thought- if Ohio had beat Akron a couple of weeks ago the Bobcats would be the #1 seed right now. 4 weeks ago they were #10.

I can live with the idea Akron may be vulnerable in the MAC Final.

Now I'm feeling nervous about EMU on Tuesday. They've been playing much better recently and always seem to give us a hard time. Luckily it's at our Convo.
