I don't remember hearing about this when it was announced at the end of last year. In addition to the CIT and CBI, there's going to be a new 16 team post season tournament in Las Vegas this year. The single-elimination tournament will be held at the Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV between March 26th and 30th. All of the games are going to be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. I didn't see if this one will be pay to play like the CBI and CIT. More details a the link below.

That's means between the NCAA (64), NIT (32), CIT (32), CBI (16) and Vegas (16) there will be 160 teams playing some form of post season basketball.

This is a great development for Ohio's program. Ohio these days has a post season firewall if it finishes above .500. That was an edge that programs in the MWC or MVC had over the MAC in that it was easier to get into the NIT. That still may be true but these other tournaments are filling the void. They are great for the participants because if successful they pad the W's total for recruiting.

That is a really smart idea by whoever put that V16 tournament together.

Limited field, in Las Vegas--nice.

I'm not as excited as you about yet another new post season tournament. Not seeing how padding win totals helps with recruiting.

I'm not sure about the win totals aspect but telling recruits you travelled to _______ for the post season only helps.

I love it. Man, I love it.

This should be the #2 tourney after the NCAA.

It has more of a bowl trip experience and reward for the teams. They need to add a consolation bracket so the teams and fans can hang around a few extra days and enjoy themselves.

The NIT, CBI, and CIT are a waste of time and money. For the schools. For the players. For the fans.

After the NFL builds a domed stadium in Vegas move it into the dome and play all 8 games on the first day -- some at the same time -- all in that dome on multiple courts. Imagine the fun.

(They stole this idea from me by the way. Somewhere back in time on this site I dreamed of a tourney at a single site over just a few days.)

This is a no brainer. You want to follow your non-NCAA team as it plays in half empty arenas on campuses who knows where or do you want to go to Vegas for 5 days?

The "losers" on Selection Sunday should be calling this tourney and begging to get in.

Good that they're doing this before the spring convention season starts in earnest and eats up all the better hotel rooms. My former employer is there in mid-April and usually brings in 100,000+.
