Who cares? They left because it was in their best interest. You'd do the same, wouldn't think twice about it and would probably be pissed if someone called you out on it. Can we please stop with this ridiculous line of "What if?"?

I thought it was an interesting stat. No need to get blown out of proportion over it.

but they're all 1st in their conference when ranked alphabetically, so they've got that going for them.

Here is a stat that speaks well for Saul. Granted the season is not over but for a second year coach at Ohio he's doing the best in MAC play of the previous 4 coaches. Groce of course beat Georgetown in the NCAAs his second year in the MAC so that record to a degree gets a pass. Hunter and TOS stuggled in the MAC while Christian underperformed with his teams.

Saul Phillips 9-5
Jim Christian 11-7
Larry Hunter 9-7
Tim O'shea 8-10
John Groce 7-9

Our current coach is 6-1 in the last 7.

And that's the stat I give a shitake mushroom about.

Maybe what NashvilleKat is saying is .... If saul keeps this up , and gets offers from bigger programs, he should think about stickin' around in this wonderful town of ATHENS .. turn this program into a mid major power .. 525k goes a long way in ATHENS and it's a wonderful community to raise your kids in ..

..STICK AROUND SAUL , WE LOVE YOU !!

BANG !! .. Oh BABY what an exciting time to be a BOBCAT !!

Boston College is currently losing to Wake Forest 38-6 on ESPNU.

No that is not a typo, it is 38-6. Wake Forest is 1-13 in the ACC.

When Christian took off for BC...I said he'd last three years. In 14 months, he'll be back in the MAC.

I just saw a screenshot on twitter, with 3:32 left in the first half WF(1-13) was beating BC(0-13) by the score of 37-4. BC made their first basket at 12:51 and their second at 6:49. WOW

If I'm not mistaken, I heard on ESPN that if BC loses their next four ACC games, they'll be the first in Division 1 to go winless in Football and Basketball in Conference play. All under former Miami AD Brad Bates.

While I love Schaus, I was not on board with Christian from day one. Boals was my guy. Water under the bridge now...Saul will have this team in the Big Dance this year or next. As for Christian, he might be coaching at Bryant College in 2 years.

I still don't 'get' all the hate or animosity towards JC. He did exactly the same things as Groce. He took a BETTER opportunity to earn MORE $$$. Probably 99% of the posters here would take a comparable promotion and increase in pay in their respective fields, if offered. It's like some of you want to see JC fail. And he may not succeed at the next level. But is he any different than Groce? Other than personality. Groce is probably on his was out of Champaign. And as noted in the article below JG won at the right time but his MAC record wasn't anything to write home about at 53%.

This is why Groce doesn't catch as much guff as Christian.

10-2 MAC Tournament
2 MAC Tournament Titles
3-2 NCAA Tournament and a short-hair away from Elite Eight
2-0 Record vs Akron in MAC Tourney

But at the end of the day, I don't blame either coach for leaving. Just the nature of the beast and being down in the middle of the food chain.

I don't blame either for taking substantial pay increases for the betterment of their families. I don't like Christian because I didn't like him at Kent and I never warmed up to him being OUr coach. Also, I don't like the way he was building the program, mainly the reliance on JUCO players.

Hard to say whether the JUCO's would have played as big a part going forward for Christian but he had some pretty good HS recruits as well.

JUCO
Travis Wilkins 2012
Maurice Ndour 2013
Nehemias Morillo 2014*
Rodell Wiggington 2014*

HS
Tony Campbell 2013
Wadly Mompremier 2013
DJ Wingfield 2013*
Kendall Crute 2014*
Tariq Owens 2014*
Khari Harley 2014

Transfer
Bean Willis
Treg Setty

* Never suited up for the Bobcats

I don't fault Jim Christian for leaving for greener pastures. What I fault him for, and this is totally my opinion, is leaving the program in worse shape then when he took it over as well as wasting what should have been our best team perhaps ever. He inherited a group of players who the year before had come within (possibly) an Offutt free throw make on an and-1 of advancing to the Elite 8 and he had a solid yet unspectacular season finished off by an awful MAC championship loss to Kron and an unspectacular postseason. He never connected or appeared to try to connect to the school or his players. He was not engaging and clearly was looking from the start to leave. It's my opinion but he just didn't seem to care about OU. Groce, on the other hand, left the program better than when he started, engaged the fan base and his players while he was there and embraced Athens and OU.
