With only 5 games remaining on the schedule we are getting a clearer picture of who should get what postseason awards.

Here are my picks

COY
James Whitford (BSU) (as bad as we were last year, they were worse) and now they are in first in the West. Saul is close on his heels.

POY - This one may go down to the wire but with his play the last month I think it's Tony Campbell. Against the three players (Boothe, Thompson, Hall) I think are his competition for this award he averaged 24.25 ppg and 9 rpg. He is tied for second in scoring (conference only stats), tied for second in rebounding, 2nd in FG%, 2nd in FT%, 2nd in 3P%,5th in blocked shots, 6th in OR, 2nd in DR. If we continue to win I don't see how he doesn't win it.

FOY
James Thompson IV - No brainer, since before last night I think he might have been ahead of Tony for POY.

1ST TEAM ALL MAC
Tony Campbell OU
Nathan Boothe UT
Jimmy Hall KSU
James Thompson IV EMU
Chris Fowler CMU

Had a hard time with #5. Fowler edged out Isaiah Johnson and Jaaron Simmons.

I think Isaiah Johnson will end up 1st team All-MAC. He's had double digit points in all but one MAC game and he is a good rebounder. Plus they are 1st in the MAC. Assuming they hold onto 1st, I think he makes it.

Question Van: when you say first team here, you're putting 4 bigs on the floor. Are we talking best 5 players, or best team, to include two guards? I'd throw James Wilder, Jonathon Williams, Robotham, or Simmons in there for consideration myself. Prior to the suspension, I'd have considered Bearden someone who should be included in discussion as well.

I've seen the conference do this too. Personally, when I think of first team, I think of it having at least two bigs, a wing, and two guards, or something along those lines. Just my five cents worth there.

I agree with you on Tony right now. I don't know how he isn't MAC POY right now. But the voters are weird. They gave it to Moss last year when I thought Richaun Holmes should have been a lock.

I'm anxious to see how Ohio handles him in the next match-up. I don't see him as a 1st team player, but he is a match up nightmare because of how well he uses that size.

Saul needs to teach Tony, Doug and Wadley how to take charges that week of practice. Just let him run you over since he's so big.

I had a tough time with the 5th first team spot as well. I'm a little biased (As most are on this board), but if I had a ballot, it would be...

COY - James Whitford, BSU (I like Saul too, but I have a feeling Dambrot will win this)

POY - Antonio Campbell, Ohio

FOY - James Thompson IV, EMU

All MAC 1st Team
- Antonio Campbell, Ohio
- James Thompson IV, EMU
- Nathan Boothe, Toledo
- Thomas Wilder, WMU
- Chris Fowler, CMU

All MAC Second Team
- Jimmy Hall, Kent
- Isaiah Johnson, Akron
- Jonathon Williams, Toledo
- Braylon Rayson, CMU
- Jaaron Simmons, Ohio

Also Considered - Eric Washington MIA, Spencer Parker BG, Lamonte Bearden UB, Marin Maric NIU

All Freshman Team
- James Thompson IV, EMU
- CJ Massinburg, UB
- Josh Williams, Akron
- Marshawn Wilson, NIU
- Jordan Dartis, Ohio

This ^

Johnson just backed us down in Athens, I kept thinking that at least once we needed to hold our feet and take the charge on the bump. Get one of those and he has to re-think his offense 'cause it's not like he steps out and hits mid-range jumpers. We've been taking more charges lately, with Block leading the charge :), another sign that the coaching is working.

I did consider him but I see him more as a one-trick pony whose numbers are well behind the other bigs. That one trick is pretty good but I think a better defensive team could shut him down.

I think it's just the 5 players that receive the most votes.

Fowler, Tony and Johnson are shoe-ins. I would go Hall for sure and probably another wing or guard. Wilder has been solid. Jaaron should be in the conversation but two Ohio guys might be pushing it. I will say Wilder.

Second Team would be Boothe, Jaaron, Travon Baker, Bearden if he ever comes back and a Balls player.

Player of the Year: Big Tone
Freshman of the Year: Thompson IV
Sixth man: Should be Block but who knows what constitutes a sixth man in this league
Coach of the Year: Should be Saul, will probably be Whitford if they win the West.

I think you're absolutely right, and the guys you chose are deserving. I just like the idea of choosing the group that represents the supposed best starting 5 in the league. In my mind that means a person can't start 4 guys that play the 4 or 5.

I agree with your opinion of Isaiah Johnson in terms of what he contributes in minutes (less than 25min a game). Some of that isn't on him, but I'll give my votes to guys that play more often.

Agree with the guys saying let's teach OUr guys about charges. It's not easy to slow down a frame that big - take advantage on defense if you can.

Agree. This is the only sport that does it this way. Every other one is position specific.
