We currently have 2nd in the East and the 2nd seed in the tourney by tiebreakers. With three of the last four on the road, we need to take advantage of two home games this week against sub-500 teams.

With the way the conference has been this year and our history with EMU, I'm probably going to sweat this one out.

This will be a very interesting game on Tuesday! Eastern plays more zone defense than anyone in the league, so it will probably come down to how well we execute our zone attack and how we shoot the ball. Hopefully we will not turn the ball over and allow them to play in transition against our defense, and we will hold our own on the boards. Go Cats !

The ball movement which I saw in the two games that I've seen (kents, Beefalo)--bring that and we can contend with a zone.

Keep being hungry. A few mid-season wins are nothing to get to OUr head...we haven't proved a thing yet.

Team ball.

Unlike in years past Eastern doesn't play at a paint-drying pace. In fact, they play at one of the highest paces in the country. They lead the conference in points scored per game and are dead last (just ahead of us) in points allowed. They crash the offensive boards like crazy but also give up a ton of offensive rebounds. It will be interesting to see how that plays out since we are good at defensive rebounding but dead-last in the conference in offensive rebounds. One thing that scares me is that they lead the league in getting to the line and lead the league in FT%. We have been much better of late in stopping penetration but it's still a concern. It will be interesting to see James Thompson IV vs Tony. Thompson was a South Carolina recruit that was jettisoned after two domestic abuse complaints. He's putting up some serious numbers and never comes off the court. In their last three games he's played 119 of a possible 120 minutes. That's unheard of for a big man.

In other words, keep doing what they've been doing? I agree with thoughts in both posts. I feel more confident against a zone because of the shooters this team has, and the ability of Simmons and Campbell to find the creases in the zone.

Statistically speaking:
-For a team that plays a lot of zone, they still allow more PPG than anyone in the league. They also score more than anyone in the league.
-They create a lot of turnovers, so the point above about avoiding that is a big key. In fact, in conference play, they have 4 in the top 15 in steals per game.
-They're a very good foul shooting team, and get to the line more often than anyone in the MAC to this point.
-Other than Raven Lee, they aren't a good 3pt shooting bunch.
-Seems like containing Lee, and their big fella James Thompson, are the keys to holding them down offensively. Thompson has averaged about 19pts/16rebs over they're last three games.

Based on the numbers, they seem like a better team than their record might indicate. They also seem to have gotten better in the same way OUr guys have as the season has gone along.

OU Country, you are spot on with your comment about Eastern's record being a surprise. They are a very difficult challenge for a team that has difficulty stopping dribble penetration and for teams who tend to turn the ball over because they come up with the ball and attack the basket. Bobcats must take care of the basketball as we probe their zone, and we need to shoot the ball well when we get good looks. We will have to play well to protect our house.

The numbers would suggest they aren't a very sound defensive team outside of creating pressure and turnovers.

On another note, because we like to talk about this on here, EMU has made progress this year in the ticket department. According to the MAC site, their average is over 1000 now.

Wow intense pic. Painted woman over left shoulder of player seems to be spitting f-bomb and what's up with the guy in red vest at right? He looks like he just got maced. And the misspelling doesn't do UAB fans any favors. Was there an altercation? I wouldn't like the Ozone to go to these lengths.

Not gonna do any good to throw a player's
past transgressions in his face now. Maybe the kid has renounced his past behavior. He definitely is playing great now at EMU.

Will be key to defend Thompson without fouling out Tony. Wonder if there is any chance we could see more Ohio lineups with two bigs on floor with Wad or Doug guarding Thompson?

This is a good Eastern team. Remember, officiating robbed them of a home win over Ball State.

Looks like the guy in red just got slapped. In fact, I just found a picture taken moments before. Scroll down on the link below and you can see the moment of contact and a description of what happened.

That may be but he was a 19 year old senior in the class of 2014. He's as old as Tony Campbell.

article says Thompson may be the first freshman to ever finish in the Value Ad Top 10 and not get drafted in the NBA. Speculates he would go high as #2 if not for character issues.

How is this possible? Because he never played for legal reasons he retains eligibility? Seems like a flaw in the system if you're the NCAA if that's the case.

Side note, I find it interesting that EMU has that much activity on a message board, but struggle with attendance. You'd think the two would correlate a little bit.

He loses a year of eligibility I believe. You have five years to play four after your senior year of high school. So essentially he used up his red-shirt. Not sure if there is an exception if you go into the military.

Didn't Chris Weinke win the Heisman when he was 28yrs old? Is it different for football?

The article on JT4 is dated 6/10/14 and lists him as being 19yrs old. That means he was born some time between 6/11/94 and 6/10/95. The youngest he could have possibly been at the start of his freshman season was 20.

By comparison TC was born on 12/24/94 so there's no more than about a 6 month +/- difference in age between the two.

Wadley and Taylor better be ready to play. KK will need to hit a few 3's - in addition to the rest of the team. No tolerance for "unforced" TO's (as in the there was no reason for that to even happen type - i.e. lazy passes, "waiting" for the pass, trying to dribble like Curly Neal for no specific reason, etc.).

Two bigs on the floor could be good for stretches. Force Thompson on Taylor or Wad on the box/paint/low - Campbell w/mismatch. Taylor in the paint on blocking Thompson out. Fundamental blocking out, crashing the boards could be the diff in this game. Can't have Tone forced to be the one to stop Thompson both ends of the court for 35+ minutes - or will see a lot of pine time for Tone due to fouls.

OUr AVERAGE attendance home MAC games this year is higher than their TOTAL attendance all MAC home games this year - jeesh. A boisterous Convo (the Real Convo) could be all it takes to rattle 'em enough
