I have to believe Saul puts KK back in the starting lineup when he's cleared to play and I wouldn't find any fault in that scenario. However, the more I think about, I can also see the benefits of keeping Gavin Block in the starting five and have KK come off the bench for some (potential) instant offense.

Either way, the team should be better off with Block gaining some valuable starting minutes the past couple of games.

Any way to find OUr rank vs all other D1 teams re the % of minutes played by first-year-on-the-team players?

I like KK and Block out there together as well when Treg is out. Treg/KK/Block are all unique players but basically any combination of 2 of the 3 out there together works very well for OHIO. Saul is able to mix it up to give different looks and keep guys fresh.

KK and Block both can really hit from deep while Treg's energy really helps us on the boards.

I like this team!

According to Ken Pom's minutes continuity stat 32.4% of our minutes are played by players who were on the team last year. Good for 304th in NCAA, 12th in MAC.

Next year we might be Top 50.

Thanks, Tilly. 304th least 'returning' minutes out of how many teams?

I have to think Kenny is back in the lineup when he's ready. It's arguable whether we are better with either in the starting lineup but it could possibly mess with the psyche of the team to bench Kenny. On paper with no personalities involved I love the idea of Kenny coming off the bench and bringing instant offense. But I'm not sure how that would sit with him and we know Block is fine as the 6th man.

Team psychology is a factor that all good coaches have to take into account in making playing time decisions. These are things that it's hard for fans to totally understand since we don't known much about how players interact and what their individual relationships are. I would guess in this case that KK gets the nod to regain his starting position. But, if the opposite happens, I'll just figure there are factors at work to which I'm not privy.

KK gets the start, you don't bench your 3rd leading scorer because his back up played well while he was out with a concussion.

Agreed, Block isn't yet a threat to go for 30. Start KK.

The concussion protocol has kept KK off the floor since the Buffalo game. He has not been permitted to practice which means no conditioning, no shooting, no activity. If he is cleared for physical activity tonight, which I believe he is, it would make sense that Saul will probably keep Gavin in the starting line-up, and bring KK into the game in short segments to make sure that he is ok, and also to begin to bring his conditioning back to where it needs to be. KK will need some time to get his "legs back under him".
Looking forward to seeing tonights game up in BG's new building. Curious to see if the improvements we have seen in the past three weeks make the trip with us.

Both these guys do a lot of good things offensively. KKs defense is what it is. Let's just say it is not the strongest aspect of his game. Block is a good help defender with a nice BBIQ but I don't think he is that good as an "on the ball defender". With the two of them on the court at the same time it is a real offense/defense trade off.

No shooting, no activity...but he was in warm-up lines for the Miami game before the game (for sure) and (I believe) at halftime.

I don't think there is a drop off on offense with Block in the game. It's just he's not the one doing the scoring. But his ball movement and passing is a huge benefit to the team in general and to Tony in particular.

Ok, so I like this idea and would be interested to see it play out, since Block is looking like the real deal. But I think Kaminski is the kind of shooter who needs early and plentiful minutes to really produce. I don't think he'd be instant offense off the bench since he needs those mins to get going.

Block coming off the bench has more value, IMO.

OK, then. How about next year with Setty's departure. A starting frontline of Tone, KK, and Block? Or someone else stepping in for Setty? I really like what I've seen when Tone and Doug Taylor are on the floor together, although I'm not sure you start them together.

My apologies in advance to those who don't like to look that far ahead. I'm guilty of looking two years down the road with this program.

Van, what I was trying to get at is you have two guys on the court that aren't exactly spectacular on defense. But, wow, they are offensive threats that can score!

Good analysis, comparison by Van.

How the hell is KK still in this game? he can't hit the goddamn broad side of a barn and Gavin has barely seen the floor. KK is absolutely killing us.

Kenny absolutely killed us at both ends start to finish tonight. Why did Block play so sparingly? Head scratcher.
