Purdue saw a 16 point halftime lead evaporate to Michigan State today. Looks like some of the country's best teams have it happen too.

I think it's just at the point where there are no big leads anymore. 15 point leads seem almost meaningless with more than four minutes left in a game. Between the 3pt shot and now a shorter shot clock, more possessions and seemingly more fouls... have at it.

Plus, MSU is not Canisius. Give Purdue credit for not hanging their heads against a very impressive team when they came back.

oh..it happens. there's no questioning that. just a little more troubling when it happens three times in one season....luckily we were able to still get two wins out of those

It doesn't really trouble me that much. I chalk it up to growing pains. This is still a young team, most of whom haven't played together for very long. I think it says more about our team that they hung on and won 2 of them. Like Purdue, they didn't just throw in the towel when the going got tough.

I looked up Ken Pom's experience rating for this team. At 1.6 years we are the 287th ...in contrast, the year 2012 we were 6th in the NCAA.

Ken Pom just recently added a new stat "minutes continuity". Exactly what it sounds like, it's the number of minutes being played this year by players who were on the team last year.

He found that there is a positive correlation between "minutes continuity" and winning percentage, not surprisingly.

Guess who has the lowest "minutes continuity" in the conference? Of course it's us at 32.6% of our minutes. Good for 303rd nationally. (League average is 51.2%)

Interesting note, the highest % by any team in the country in a given season since 2010 is us in 2013.

That's very interesting and our ranking this year (and compared to 2013) is exactly what some on this board have been talking about in terms of the inexperience of the coming-together 2016 squad.

Just makes that 2013 season all the more frustrating.

I'm angry all over again thinking about that season. Home loss to Winthrop?!?!?! 3-game sweep by Akron. ARGHHHHHHH!!!

Dag, I don't know if the idiot everyone is talking about was me or not...maybe it was. However, I like the minute continuity thing much better than the experience thing. If you have an ok, experience wise, starting five: Setty a SR, Campbell a JR, KK, I think a RS JR, and Simmons a Soph or RS Soph, I would still say that is pretty experienced. But when you throw in a bunch of froshs on the team and use team experience, that brings our number way down but I think isn't indicative of who is playing the minutes (as I think borna clarified).

On the other hand, the minutes played, to me, really tells you something. These may be older guys but they just haven't played together and I do agree with that number more and it an even higher one! So, I do get we have a bunch of guys who haven't played together much and I understand that makes a big difference.

I hope with this explanation I am less of an idiot than you think...if someone was referencing me:)

This where I've found that basketball still has so much more information to mine in the future, whereas baseball's kinda been strip-mined of new things.

The measurement of how players interact and play together is going to be a rich field in basketball metrics, I bet.
